Stuck trunk, no way in

i?m dealing with a stuck trunk on my 2005 330Ci convertible. trunk wouldn?t open from the key fob, dash button, or even the manual key (which only turns 45?). battery isn?t dead and glovebox valet lock is off so i figured it had to be a mechanical failure inside the latch


after reading a few threads and some comments, i went for the ski pass method and gave the subwoofer door a light kick and it actually popped open, which was a win. now I?m inside the trunk through the ski hole.

the problem is now i?m looking at the back wall of the trunk and can?t figure out where or how to manually release the trunk latch from inside. i know the latch is behind that carpeted panel (just behind the license plate area, slightly left of center), but there?s very little room and i don?t want to break anything blindly

has anyone done this exact thing and knows where exactly i need to press or pull once i?m behind the carpet? i?m trying to figure out how to peel back the carpet panel without damaging it, since there?s barely any space to work with. and once i get behind it, i?m not totally sure what the latch mechanism feels like from the inside or how to trigger it manually. i?m so close to getting this trunk open just need guidance for that final step
