Let's see, there is air, there is gas, there is electricity, there is cooling, so, ..... ..... needs video!
and there are massive vacuum leaks ;)
ICV and assorted hoses need to be figured out. Also need to make an plate to hold the throttle cable and get a slightly longer one made. Will be using a M70 intake elbow so my car is now a mix of NK, E21, E28, E30, E32, E38, and E46
Stopped at Carl's on my way home, this is what my engine bay currently looks like

edit: she has good friends to hang out with (ti, M5, 3200, etc.)

Enlarged the hole so I could get the computer plug through the firewall
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...95033E8B42.jpg
I need to do a few more wiring mods and an airbox, then I should be good to go
Temporary air filter... will test fire with ICV wired in a few minutes
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...1F61CD980C.jpg
Very exciting!
In for vids!!!!
proof it ran... unfortunately this is at 2k rpm without timing or ICV adjusted
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ZJypnlULEo
next up is cleaning/wrapping up the harness, modifying the 318i airbox to work and fit correct.
Cool beans! I can only imaging the feeling, must be a mixture of feeling like a God and a mad scientist!
hahaha, it's mostly a sense of relief that it's close to done. Still need to do some cleanup and fine tuning but we're over 90% there. The rest should be easy
Awesome
holes filled, need to get some more paint
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...1BC889DF82.jpg
figured out my idle issue... apparently I swapped 2 out of 3 of the ICV wires when I converted from the 2 wire E30 setup to the 3 wire Volvo. The stupid ICV wires are blue/white and blue/red on the E30 harness... the Germans seriously couldn't pick another color besides blue as the base?
Now that it's fixed it idles in the 750-800 RPM range. After this video was taken we adjusted the valves and set the timing to 6° at idle. Will now finally get around to soldering and wrapping up the harness to look clean

Nice work bud.

Need to weld this stud to the frame rail so I can use the stock rubber mount on the bottom of the airbox

Throttle cable made, now I need to make a bracket so it sits at the right angle
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...8FCF60E44D.jpg
'85 fuel rail arrived from Germany, need to switch over and make a block off plate for my cold start injector
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...979199070D.jpg
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...93EF1997FE.jpg
Ground cables replaced. I repositioned the alt ground from the 318i position on the bracket to directly on the block. I also ran a newer style sleeved cable to the frame from the same unused bolt hole. I will hopefully now not have to deal with oil on my ground cable whenever I change the filter.
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...A577784DC6.jpg
Messed with the stock 318i bracket some more. Got it to close enough where it will work for now. At least I can use this as a template to bend up a new bracket. I will also need to shift the hole a few mm off the current position so the cable sits at the perfect angle
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...F0292F11A1.jpg
Making some serious progress, nice work
Thanks!

Copied from my post on the E21 forum:
I have 150 break in miles so far, initial thoughts...
This powerplant is way more powerful, I have so much more torque. Running a 3k redline I think I am as fast if not faster than my 1.8L was running all the way up to 6400rpm. I have enough power to get up the hill on Scripps Poway Parkway in 5th when I used to have to drive in 4th and sometimes drop down to 3rd just to make it to the top if I couldn't keep the speed up due to traffic.
I think I might need a new ICV because it has a very slow response time. It will drop to about 400rpm before kicking in, and a few times now it has not been fast enough and the car stalls. Unfortunately the Bosch ones are no longer available and I have to order an OE one at appx $360. Will keep looking around to see if I can find a better one and not have to buy a brand new one.
Next step is finishing up airbox mounting and repainting the box

So I put another 100 miles on it; it dieseled a few times. I think fuel is getting past the cold start injector. I guess I need to swap to the '85 fuel rail and make a block off plate to see if it solves the issue.
the other rail for comparison purposes:

I don't know what time I posted that, but this is what else happened that day
At first I noticed I caught a rock so I stopped at LJI to see if Carl had a lens for me
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...A37B0E7975.jpg
He said to come back and look in the morning. I went to my car and started it, was waiting for my oil to warm up when I heard a bang. At first I thought my engine blew up, but then I noticed a Toyota with a blown tire.
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...D19FD6998D.jpg
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...E55A1D18DA.jpg
Some of you saw this on fb so you know the story, but for those that didn't:: the sun was low on the horizon and he guy in the truck was driving west. I think it was a mix of being blinded by the glare, trying to avoid the concrete median, and not being able to tell where my car was due to the height difference of the Toyota and my E21.
The insurance already checked it out and made me an offer; I have to go back to them as they quoted me for US spec parts when mine are Euro.
Good news though... I already have spare parts/my friends hooked me up.

Jeez, the poor thing was just reborn and having trouble already! You sound positive as always.
