I just did some relatively harder cornering today and I noticed the rears do rub on hard corners. This probably means I will run during track days.. HMMMM. 12.5mm in the rear will not be a good idea at all.
So current wheel specs with spacers included:
Fronts:
8.5 +27.5
Rear:
8.5 +30
Minor update:
Today I replaced my fuel filter, repaired my brake duct hoses with gaff tape and did an oil change.
Since I was fixing my hoses, I decided to try the rims without the spacers. As I expected the clearance from the rim to the caliper was barely 2 business cards thick. This is definitely not drivable in race conditions!

Things will be quiet on the modification side for awhile. Hopefully I can order some PFC06 brake pads all around ($600+ ouch) soon for July 26th track day. I will probably order a 3mm spacer to replace the 12.5mm spacer in the front.

The stoptechs came with stoptech performance pads. From my initial bedding, it doesn't look like it takes much to get them hot and smoking. They are good street pads and have great low temperature bite.

Currently I have XP8 brake pads for the rear M3. These pads have plenty of life left. I think my old setup with XP10 Front, XP8 rear had too much front brake bias. I would like to return to the same compound on all four corners to maintain similar to stock brake bias. I think the XP8 may not be up to the task for the front as the carbotech website recommends XP10 and up for heavier cars.
I emailed Carbotech for their suggestion if XP8 all around is a sound solution or not. I am also concern about brake pad swapping with the same rotors. I do not have a spare set of front rotors to swap as the Aero Rotor rings are not cheap. I am not sure if the carbotechs will be compatible with the stoptech street pads.
So much information to take in...too many options.. :facepalm
I would go with XP8 all around as it is the most cost efficient route but it might not stop the car as good as those XP10s I had before. Decisions Decisions. Money is tight at the moment for car parts so this is a tough decision. Might have to eat ramen for a few weeks ;)
Hmm yea, this was also my issue when I was racing in the AFM. The faster I wanted to go, the more expensive everything was getting. Tries didn't last nearly as long, regular track day brake pads didn't cut it anymore, pump gas got replaced with MR12... it was a downward spiral.. for my finances :)
I'm sure you'll make the right call in the end--after you get more information.
Is your next track day going to be on the new, West, loop? I hear it officially opened today.
I talked to a Carbotech Rep about my specific brake setup and he recommends I go with the XP12s in the front and when the XP8s in the rear wear out, to purchase XP10s for the rear. He mentioned the rear M3 rotors shifted the brake bias to the rear a bit and surprisingly he also mentioned the ST40 shifted the brake bias to the rear as well. I definitely looking into where he got this insider information about the stoptechs moving the brake bias to the rear because I would've thought it move it forward a bit. The friction coefficient of the XP12, XP10 and XP8 are very similar so the different compounds would not have a major impact adjusting the bias too much. Well at least according to the CT rep.Quote:

My Carbotech XP12 brake pads for the front are on the way. The current setup for the brakes will be XP12 front, XP8 rears. Once the XP8 run out, I will switch to a stronger compound, XP10 or XP12 depending on how the car feels on the track.
I finally drove the car for the first time since 6/6. It feels great to take it out and work that engine a bit! The gearing for the 3.62 is a bit short for city streets but it's perfect for the track days and I love every minute driving this car. The final drive will work perfectly with the S54 in a couple years.. :eeps
