What did you do for your ZHP/ BMW / MINI today? #2

^ it goes away when I rev her, this sound seems to only occur at idle. I can't imagine how terrible she sounds at a red-light as people are walking by, lol...

I ordered a Dorman DISA and new intake boots...hoping this will take care of the problem. The knocking noise seems to come directly from the transmission.

Symptoms:
- Car in neutral, foot off the clutch
- Random knocking noise
- Foot on clutch, noise goes away
- Much more prominent with my engine misfiring

It must be some bearing of somesort...maybe input shaft or throwout bearing. I haven't figured it out yet.

The noise from the neutral almost sounds like a flywheel issue. But most likely not.

I know a Lightweight Flywheel makes noises when in neutral, but when the clutch is in it goes away

It is a 128i with M-Sport Package.

Now that you mention it...I do have a good amount of chatter when moving into first gear, especially in the mornings. It's very possible that my flywheel is worn out, and with DMFs I have heard they tend to get funny when they wear. I'm at about 127k on the original clutch, after all. Could be that I need a new one in the future. I'm just hoping it holds out 'til I start working!

Extra cooling to the brakes and/or intercoolers. Foglights block a good amount of potential airflow to those parts.

Funny thing you say that, because my "ducts" to my brakes are actually throttled off in the Z4M. I have huge inlets (as you can see in my sig) but there is a plastic piece behind there that throttles at least 75% of the opening.


I also have ducts to the brakes on the 128i right next to the fog lights

Yeah, and IIRC, I told you to pound those suckers out :shifty

I'm sure you know this but I'll state it anyways.. but us ZHP guys have brake ducts next to our foglights too :)

People have actually noted that they have felt the front end feel "light" at 100+ on the track.

Until I can fabricate some actual ducts or a company makes some. I'm going to leave it in.
