I haven't seen polished black grilles just the matte black ones.

Can't you just paint the Matte with Gloss Black?

Then the paint will flake off. I've painted kidneys before.

yeah after some time they will flake off then you have to respray them.

Theoretically you could, lots of thin layers, a lot of fine sanding/polishing and some layers of clear coat but for that much effort you should just pay the extra money and get the real BMW ones

Painting grilles bad idea. Even if it doesn't flake off, it will get chipped off from all the road debris and rocks that fly up at the car and it will look like crap anyway. Ask me how I know.

You have to take the long black louvered piece out and put double sided tape where it makes contact with the metal. Sweet silence. :)
