Likely motul or Castroil Although I have historically used Mobil one in all my other cars.
But this engine is really high strung and all the internals are forged or titanium.
When new, BMW specified 15W-50 weight mineral oil in the S14. However, running a 15W-50 weight synthetic oil, or a thinner synthetic like a 10W-40 provides the same or better protection as the 15W-50 weight mineral oil in all cases, with none of the drawbacks.
Thinner oil flows easier, faster, and carries heat away from surfaces quicker with less work required from the oil pump, and less resistance on the crank. Thinner, high quality synthetic oil also flows better in the cooler weather along with equal to or better film strength than mineral oil of a higher viscosity meaning longer life of all lubricated components.
Oil is one of those products that everyone has a favorite. And it can be quite a point of contention between folks.
I will reconsider Amsoil and Redline as well.

My S14 is presently being overhauled due to rod bearings knock....and then some more when we opened it up...Pandora came out.
But anyway, 3 local M3 S14 techs (all well known) plus Mike Miller highly recommend 20w50 conventional/mineral oil. Using synthetic was the cause of all the engine wear. 20w50 especially for SoCal weather. Synthetics for newer BMW engines.
"Initially, I agree that 5W-30 oil is too light for an S14 (and many other engines) unless you’re driving in Arctic temperatures.
As for synthetic vs. mineral oil, I don’t really care but it should be 20W-50 year-round in the San Diego climate. I use Kendall GT-1 20W-50 in engines built during the S14 era. Synthetic theoretically lasts longer but the S14 runs so rich I wouldn’t leave any oil in the engine past 5,000 miles.
Now, as for the engine wear, it could be the result of normal driving without enough oil viscosity, but it impresses me more as the result of racetrack driving and lots of it, probably with software that increases the redline, and possibly with detonation resulting from 11:1 compression pistons – they require racing fuel. Pump gas doesn’t have enough octane.

Just installed an auto dimming / home link/ compass mirror in my ZHP. Fairly straightforward install, but a bit of a pain to fish the wires where they need to go. I used the official retrofit harness and tapped into the reverse signal block and got power from a switched connection in the fuse box (fuse 24). If your car doesn't have a ground already wired up, you can easily just tap into the grounding block over there.
My car for some reason had the BMW assist wiring despite not having BMW Assist (probably why I already had a ground connection). If you do this retrofit, make sure you remove pins 4, 5, 6, and 7 from the mirror connector, otherwise you can damage the new mirror.

I really want to do this mod, but between the whole "remove these pins or you'll ruin the mirror" thing and the fact that I have a vert and verts need the vert mirror that I can't find, I just can't get myself moving on that project.
