Damn, that's cheap. I just checked yesterday and 169.99 was the cheapest I saw.

Did some measuring on the stock diffuser...not sure if I can cut away some of it but it looks like the exhaust may be angled a bit. The stock tips are 2.5" I think I squeeze an inch in there. We will see.

Ummm...the seller I bought from has a very weirdly worded page. Ive been in contact with him and it seems he's selling M54 headers, but lists the fitment as 330i will need modification. Sent him an email that I will be sending them back expecting a full refund.
As it turns out...the headers I have in my possession that I bought for the 328i are actually for M54. Super pumped about that. Hope I am not stuck with them as I will be out $100...

Hope he accepts the return.

Headers came today. I opened them up and they look like good quality. I was not home to refuse the delivery, hopefully the shipping co. doesn't charge me for the return shipping.
If they do charge, someone on the East coast that is looking to do headers can have these for $100. Which is what I paid. No discount, but you get them instantly no waiting for shipping :)
Stopped by the dealer to pick up the required hardware to do the swap. Set me back $101 with my discount. Purchased 16 copper nuts, two exhaust manifold gaskets with heat shields, and the exhaust gaskets after the down pipes.
Projected install date is this Friday.

Hardware is expensive eh ? Are you doing this yourself or having them installed ?
Getting intimate on Friday morning ;)
Have all the tools ready and laid out. Just have to buy a torch to loosen the header to exhaust flanges.

How much modification will be needed to make these headers work?
Yep. They are yours if you desire them :)
Pick a weekend and I will try to align my schedule for a trek down to your place of employment.

To all interested parties, John bought the headers. Thanks for looking.
Looks like its shaping up to be a nice Friday. 6am can't come quick enough! Gonna paint them with VHT header paint. Not gonna wrap them unless the coating wears off.

Waiting for the ceramic paint to dry on the headers. Then install with new nuts and gaskets.
To cure the paint I have to idle for 10 minutes, then cool for the same. Idle for 20 and cool for the same. The last step is to drive for a half hour and let it cool for a half hour. Just want to start it already!!

Nice! Gonna be so sweet.

Nice, how long did that take? Were the two rear nuts a pita?
For me, the process was surprisingly simple.
I lifted the car at 7:30 and got cracking. The hardest part was loosening the four flange bolts.
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/06/07/8yvesyqa.jpg
I got the two on the right off in a cinch. Cheater bar and the proper 15 mm socket. The left pair was a bitch. The nuts deformed and the 15 mm socket was just spinning. Hammered on a 14 mm and got one of...the other one sheared off and is stuck in the #14 socket.
I had taken the weight off the mounts with my support bar.
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/06/07/yzade8ud.jpg
From there I removed the engine mount arm.
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/06/07/vu5aqy7y.jpg
Four 13 mm bolts hold it to the block. The engine ground strap is a 13 mm bolt too. Remove the bottom engine mount nut and just pull the unit as a whole out.
That leaves you with a clear shot at all the nuts on the bottom. They are all #11 nuts. I had to use a spanner to get the two off on the rear of bank 2. I wish I had a ratcheting spanner for them...have a #10 and a #12 lol.

Those bolts on my car are f'?$k=d!
The friendliest forum on the planet.
They sell a newer style flange bolt. Its $11 per...wasn't gonna spend $50 on four bolts. Hopefully the SS bolts I bought at the hardware store will suffice.

Cool! Can't wait to hear how it went. Nice to see more people putting headers on now that they are more affordable...
:thumbsup
Looking good Justin. That's a lot of work, but going to be worth it.
I've got the bug to do headers

Lucky Kansas has no inspections... just worried about the code it's gonna throw

Legs got scorched when the sun rose over head. I was not concerned at the time...but gotdamn do my shins hurt!
So the fitment is off on these headers. I paid $40 for them from a kid in NJ. I wasnt expecting much in that regard. What I am shocked about is the number of "muffler shops" that don't do welding...
Found a guy who is open at 9 hopefully I get a call back.
I managed to connect a pair of flanges. The sound is really obnoxious. I felt bad starting it before 8am...
May be taking the van to work today.

Can't tell if it's the fumes of unburnt gasoline or the noise it makes...but I went to a shop and we worked the exhaust into place with a double beveled spacer. Although...just headers was quite hilarious to drive with through town.
All told $65 to fix the fitment issue.

Exhaust is leaking at the flanges. I can hear it when I'm coasting in gear.
Going to have the headers chopped and rewelded to the stock position on tomorrow afternoon.

My flanges didn't mate well either, and mine were BB headers. Mine were off axis some...but not an inch from mating. If your going to the exhaust shop anyways and planning on keeping stock exhaust setup, I highly recommend getting them to put an H pipe in...otherwise it will be very tinney sounding...I put one in with my AR25s and it helped a lot.

Eventual plan is to have a single 3" exhaust with an ar30 and a Vibrant 1047 at the back.

The tinney sound is very real, I actually enjoy it, but plan to swap the catless back to the magnaflow system

Going to see what they would charge me for a full custom build. But first I need to get the header flanges to line up with the OEM exhaust location. From there we will determine the way to go.
I really hope Doug the exhaust builder has the insight to make the exhaust as best as possible.
Sent from my GS3.
Yea I hope that's the case for you. I found that my exhaust shop, was just your generic shop doing exhaust...I kept asking the guy questions and he just shrugged lol. I was just like ooookay? ...o well they're cost effective at least

Changed my brake lights today. Had a passenger side rocket booster to start the morning. Figured it was something with all the rain we got. Nope. Just a regular repair.
Appointment for exhaust is Friday at 8am. Hopefully we can lay out a plan to get things in motion for the 3" single.
Also in the works is a lil something special ;) maybe I will be able to debut it at Bimmerfest...
