I installed new floor mats and 3 new lug nuts for the left front wheel. Why 3 new lug nuts you ask? Well I'll tell you. When I bought my car, I asked the dealer if there was anything mechanical he may have noticed that may need attention so I could address it when I received the car. He told me that after driving it, it felt like it could use new front control arm bushings. I was going to do a suspension refresh when I got the car anyway, so no biggie. Yesterday, when I was heading home, the front end started making clunking noises, then it started wobbling and it felt like the left front wheel was about to fall off, so I pulled over to take a look. As it turned out, the car didn't need new control arm bushings, what it needed was 3 lug nuts. The left front wheel was being held on by only 2 lug nuts and because of this, I’m guessing they continued to work themselves loose to the point of almost falling out. I bought a $29 box of 10 new lug nuts today from AutoZone and installed them. The front end feels fine now, no more clunking. The pathetic part of this story is that the car received a full inspection from a BMW dealership in California a few days before I bought it. I still have a copy of the inspection report with a big check mark by wheels and tires as A-OK!
