BTW for anyone who remembers, the Bosch coil I ordered has completely failed 1 month after installing it. ZHPizza was right when he said "return that junk bro." Wise words indeed.
I did some research and the following brands make coils for our engines:
Ridex, Stark, Hella, Era, Hitachi, Meat & Doria, Magneti Marelli, Beru, Bremi, Janmor, Bougicord, Abakus, Topran, Champion, Esen SKV, JP Group, Vemo, Facet, Mapco, Swag, NGK, Tesla, Triscan, EPS, Lizarte, Denckermann, Sidat, AIC, FAE, Profit, Metzger and of course Eldor.
I dare say any of these will be better than the Bosch crap.
Any idea on why my engine bay is so loud?
As the attached video shows, loud raspiness on the right side around the secondary air pump and loud flow noises by the DISA valve. http://cloud.tapatalk.com/s/6174008b..._122016297.mp4
That actually sounds like my engine bay. I always thought that was normal.
Has anyone ever heard of oil leak but only on an incline? I left my car with my dad in San Diego, and he says he left it in the inclined driveway (front facing up) for a couple days, and when he moved it, he found 2 soccer ball-sized round oil spots underneath.
I came back to SD today to find that the spots are still there, so it’s not water. Definitely greasy to the touch. Checked oil level and it’s still normal, and I could not find an obvious leak from looking in the engine bay or peering under the car (not able to get underneath it however).
Any thoughts? Should I be worried?

Does anyone have any recommendations as to how to access this hose clamp if the bolt is facing the other way (i.e. downwards)? It is on the lower intake boot, but the upper hose portion of that boot, specifically the portion going to the ICV.
EDIT: Nevermind, I got it.

Yeah it’s important to orient that bolt such that it can be easily reached the next time someone goes in there

Question: where might one source the gasket for a GruppeM intake where the carbon fiber shield (red arrow) mates to the air filter (green arrow)? Mine has since disintegrated on me when I took it apart to clean the filter. I might need to switch over to my BMW Performance intake for a while :facepalm

Sadly, I don't think it's ever been touched, so this is as it came from the factory unless I'm mistaken.
I believe the boots are put in as a combo or in from the bottom originally, with no regards to being replaced. That's where a flexible hose clamp driver can help, or go blindly in with a socket & ratchet!

Since I do not have a flexible hose clamp driver, this was me last night:

I’m offering a $10 Venmo/PayPal for the first person that can find me the associated connectors for these plugs, and the wire pins that go into them. I’m sure there’s an easy way, but I don’t know it. I just end up aimlessly searching RealOEM. Hoping an expert can just take the guess work out for me.

Also I’m trying to make a harness. BMW branded or not, anyone have good plug suppliers? Looking to connect 6 wires.
I swear those part numbers don't even come up. pull out a pin and the wire gauge, probably find it faster that way lol
edit:
I guess it's a type of PBT GF15 connector
like these:

just gotta find the correct pins you need.
I spent hours looking at that plug style and can’t find the female. These plugs are 4-pin. I can only find stuff 6-pin and greater or a 4-pin all in a line
How do you guys feel about a dual projector headlight? Thinking about retrofitting F32 LED headlights…

Dual projectors are cool and all, but... They don't leave any place for city lights. [emoji846]

What is a city light, like a DRL?
Not quite, as it's activated by the parking lights and higher. But, the attached image shows the city lights in the inner bowls. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...6d89236a92.jpg

What is their purpose? I mean I can’t recall the last time my inner bulb was used. I assume not for parking because then the turn signals are used.
In Europe, E46's didn't have the turn signals lit when the parking lights were on, so instead city lights were used. My speculative guess is that they were a way to light the front of the car without having potentially blinding headlights on in city settings, making it easy to be seen while still allowing pedestrians and other drivers to not be blinded, same as our parking lights here.
For both coupes and sedans, there is a hole in the inner reflective bowl that serves as a cutout for the bulb. It isn't the high beam bulb, but instead a small 5W bulb that fits into that cutout through the back of the housing and twists in. It has its own bulb holder and wiring that goes to the LCM, and would be activated by turning the light switch to the parking light or headlight position.
I can't speak for coupes, but for sedans with Xenons here in the U.S., only the ZKW headlight housings have the cutouts in the housing itself. AL Xenon housings have to be drilled out on the housing side of things. I'm not sure what holes the halogen housings have.
I did the retrofit on my ZHP and love it as an alternative to the angel eyes that everyone else runs.
Here's an example pic of how the European setup is - turn signal lights are completely off while the headlights are on and city lights illuminated. Note, my inner bowls are yellow, making the city light presence more pronounced.

I definitely have seen that hole. I used it to wire up power and ground to my bi-xenon projector right into the pins of the high beam, heh.
Thankfully I discovered the Porsche projectors are smaller and do low and high beam from a single element. They're also cheaper! I didn't like having money anyway. :)
I think Vas or someone else posted it, but what is the website that has the ZHP shift knob for ~$75?
That price might have changed. He mentioned a code to use for add'l 10% off:

What are the three speaker sizes for the front doors on a sedan?
Has anyone with an Xtrons unit (preferably model PB7646BAP) have trouble getting their Bluetooth to work? Mine suddenly stopped connecting. On my iPhone it says connected, but it doesn't show it is connected on the headunit, and when I go into the Bluetooth settings, it doesn't say it is connected nor does it even see my iPhone when I forget the Xtrons unit as a device and is searching for devices.
I have no shadow or permanent codes. When I had the auto, the idle would sometimes stutter and you cud feel it as if it misfired. It happens less often with a manual but I sat at a light when the idle started going weird. I don’t know if this knocking came after the weird idle or during, but it did. Any idea where I should look? No other driving issues period.

I don't really know idle issues well, but could always take out and clean the ICV.
Yeah it’s top of my list. Just wondering if maybe I should do a VANOS rebuild to or something else when I set aside time
Can't remember if you've replaced the coils, but that thumping noise (if I heard correctly) kind of sounded like a coil going out.
Beisan VANOS and rattle kit are good preventative services regardless of the problem, but this doesn't seem like VANOS or VANOS-rattle problem.
I have never heard a coil going out. How would you describe the sound? And how would I diagnose this since it’s so intermittent and no CEL? Sometimes in the cold during the rough idle, extra smoke would come out the exhaust (like a single engine stroke worth), but even that hasn’t happened in a while. I did have to reset adaptions for my manual swap too.
My friend has a spare set of coils. Perhaps I’ll ask to borrow them
Edit: I did buy VANOS seals and bearings and a DISA kit. The DISA from my old car fell apart upon removal 🥲
Dumb question, but I guess that’s what this thread is for. Did all ZHPs come with electric fans? Mine has electric fan but I’m not the original owner. I have the records from the original owner which are exhaustive, but there’s no mention of electric fan conversion.
