Then go ugh a few months later when dust, pollen and other stuff gets all over everything. Or it's summer and amazingly cosmolean manages to ouse out of seams

I thought they stopped using Cosmoline a long time ago...
My E30's M20 had yellowed Cosmoline all over the intake manifold before I pulled it. lol

What do you think that yellowish wax is?

You are correct! I don't have the skills like you Stuart nor do I have the equipment to do that. I wish I did though!!! As I always tell people, you are the true mod king...the reason why I try to do the best job on my cars... :thumbsup ;)
