Thanks! I should thank you for inspiring me to get off my lazy ass and take some decent photos. ;)

Fabulous looking TiAg. I love those wheels!

The cluster repair you posted yesterday has me thinking about repairing mine, since I have the exact same problem - can't reset the trip gauge or change the oil service interval (yet alone get to all the other hidden functions)
I've watched the 50sKid video on repairing the same problem with the right side clock button (he has great video's https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3kPO_VeHwM&t=57s).
But wondering if anyone with a backup cluster laying around would be willing to sell just the left push button stalk? Should look like the image I found below, and 50sKid is pointing to it installed in the 2nd pic. It appears that it can't be purchased separately and the cheapest eBay prices for an entire cluster (from Lithuania and from a diesel 3 Series) start at $33. Clearly willing to pay for it........

yep, that's it. the "male" piece in the middle section (where the stalk cover meets the body) had broken off. such an annoying little thing...
it's surprising that you can't find those pins by themselves...
EDIT: i found an ebay listing here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-E46-3-S...cAAOSwqMRa3fz8
Webster - you're a good man. Thanks for the search! I'd been searching since I saw your post yesterday with no luck. But if I were you, I'd go buy a lottery ticket quick because from the eBay listing, looks like this guy posted this at 10:47 PDT today, right after I posted my message here (and that's when I stopped looking)! What great luck (and timing)! And very helpful to me of course. Much appreciated
Now I've got to swallow hard, get out my wallet and decide to either pay this guy $25.93 for this little thing, or get the entire cluster from a 2001 diesel in Lithuania for $33 in a month or so. I think it's going to be door #1 for $25.93
Put on my summer wheels--17 x 8.5" APEX Arc-8's with 245/40 PSS'. Been waiting to try the 17's instead of my normal 18" Arc-8's. should perform nicely in combination with my new 3.38 LSD... can't wait 'til this weekend!
