thanks, that makes sense. I've now seen a few on eBay and the part number on some of them appears to be a stick on label.... This one is probably not OEM
Aaaand diagnosis done! It's the maf! So old spare maf installed (thank you spare parts box) and time to order a new maf.

Tried to start it yesterday and it’s dead!
That being said, I called today for prices to replace the eight year old battery.
First I called NAPA because, that’s what the eight year old one is. Two choices with a begged for discount. $165ish & $190ish. I then called my local BMW steetership. Once I gave him the vin and he calculated my BMWCCA discount and took off the core that I will bring with me. He gave me a price of $130ish out the door. And Alabama has like a 9% sales tax.
Looks like I’m going back to OEM![emoji3]
