My Ultragauge picked up a pending P1515 code tonight. What is the difference between pending codes and fault codes?
Hey guys I need an opinion on getting new headers. I have a chance to get Active Autowerke headers used for about $700. I want them for HP Gains and for a better sounding car. Will these headers with the stock exhaust sound good or would I need to get a full exhaust setup? And do you guys think the $700 is worth it for these headers?
How many gallons of fuel do our cars hold?

Thanks. Wanted to make sure the new fuel pump/float/guage is working. I put 14.75 in it today. The light was one but still said I had @50mi til empty.

Doesn't the manual claim it's 16.6 gallons?

Yea it's definitely just above 16.5; don't remember the specifics though.
Yeah I dont plan on making my car too loud I just wasn't sure how it would sound with just headers + stock exhaust. I'll definitely have to check out the BimmerBrakes headers but is it really the same HP gains? Would I really just be paying for the brand name if I paid for AA headers?
16.6 gal (with 1.3 gal in reserve --not in addition) http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthr...+tank+capacity
Random question, I wonder if I can get the old airbag from the recall? I could use it to prank one of my smart ass friend's!
:rofl I hope you have some understanding and very forgiving friends

I can't imagine that hitting my face.:shifty
At least the Porsche doesn't have an airbag? :dunno
Only a steering wheel.... Which I assume is a bit harder than a bag.

Edit: when I started typing this I needed help with a diagnosis, now I am just confused and any input helps :)
Hey guys, kinda urgent one here.
So I was just getting off the highway after a 30 minute commute to school, and was stopped at the intersection. Light turned green and the car got off the line like it normally does, but then almost immediately (1st gear around 2k) it felt as if I had stepped in the brakes, my immediate response was to give it more gas and shift into second (as I was crossing an intersection and wanted to get out). In second, same thing, absolutely no power. I just managed to make it the nearest driveway and thankfully as soon as I pulled in, power steering went out, dash lit up, and car died.
I spoke to Dario and he suggested that it was the fuel pump. I listened for the "whir" noise but I couldn't hear it. Not sure if that's because there is no noise, or because I'm 30 feet from a massive intersection. My gas gauge indicated about 1/16 or so of a tank. All belts look good, oil is fine, as are all other engine fluids. Not a drop of anything in sight. After waiting a couple if minutes I tried to turn it on which looked like this:

Then after recording that video, in the slight chance my fuel gauge is off, I walked to the nearest gas station and bought a gallon. After dumping it into to my car, I let it sit and then attempted another startup which looked like this:

*insert happiness and confusion here*
Well my original question was, did my fuel pump go out. But now, since it wasn't working when I started typing this, and now is working, is my gauge just wrong and I just ran out of gass? I will go immediately now and fill her up. Would a strain on the fuel pump like this today, be a good excuse to replace it anyways?

Strange John. The sensor to the gauge is built into the pump so perhaps a new one is called for.
Similar symptoms after my fuel pump was dying. Survive a couple days by hitting the gas tank before starting the car, old school trick to get the pump jump started.

Could be your fuel level sender on the drivers side of the tank that failed. Could indicate 1/16 level but be actually empty.
I'm thinking this. Haven't had a single problem or even indication of a failing pump. When I went to fill her up, the pump only registered 14.3 gallons + the .8 I dumped in a couple minutes before. That's only 15.1 gallons when a "normal" fill is usually around 15.8 or so for me.

Started by hitting it underneath the rear passenger side of the car. After that was no longer working I removed my back seat and hit the top of the fuel pump. Lasted only about 4 days like this until it fully died.
You are letting your gas tank get way too empty. The fuel pump needs the fuel to help keep it cool. Your symptoms are sounding like a bad fuel pump. I had almost the same issue when mine let go. Luckily I was driving around with a spare pump in the trunk in case it happened, since it had 191k on it. Time between first symptom and replacement: 3 hours, only because I had somewhere I needed to be before I could swap the pump.
I strongly believe that not letting my gauge read below 1/4 tank most of the time helped prolong my pump's life, which is exactly what I did. I have no facts to prove it, but there isn't any reason to let it get that low, so I fill it up once it reaches 1/4 mark. :thumbsup
If only you knew the scarcity of north bay gas stations... Lol
