A very late "Sorry that this happened to you Justin". Had no idea, but got a hint from reading your posts on another thread so I came here to see.
Sad about the car but happy that you are alright and searching new wheels.
I would totally two-tone that mystic over grey... That would look amazing on that color.
Hornung, I'm in the area if you want a look at that mystic
Just like this:

At the Chiropractor...the doctor is not in :(
Been waiting all weekend for an adjustment. Missing work yet again (State Farm will cover 85% of lost wages) but there is only so much I can do at home.
No word yet on the ZHP. Hoping to know later today, but I'm not holding my breath.

Reading up on SMG repairs. :shifty

We'll see what Justin's up to soon enough Brett.....
Printing off threads and repairs regarding SMG repairs, Salmon relays, S54 maintenance.
Then, over on Rennlist, I'm printing off threads about timing belt, water pumps, sealing the front and rear of the block, and clutch changes. Lots of reading to do while I'm in Cabo San Lucas.
Calling insurance in an hour.

Got it buddy! Have a good trip and enjoy the reading/vacation.
SMG = Sucky (non)Manual Gearbox
:rofl...I know...but if it's priced right, I have to take it. Plus, the CSL transmission software is apparently insanely fast. Theres a few fixes out there for high temp SMG pump fails, which needs a simple resistor wired inline, and I can always switch to a manual trans with the appropriate parts found in the junkyard.

SMG failure rate is highly overrated. Mostly hyped by 6MT fanboys who only offer anectodal evidence including but not limited to:
"My buddy had an SMG and didn't like it."
"My Indy said they are problematic."
"I want total control of the car." (Lmao at this one)
"Only girls get SMG."
"I don't want a computer shifting for me." Aw, mad it does it twice as good and three times as fast?
Or any other variant where a person wants to make them self feel like more of a man because they drive a true manual.
yeah but when they fail its lots of money.. you could 6 spd manual swap once the smg pump does, but eh. Just get the 6 speed from the get go. Different strokes for different folks
ant they suck on the daily grind, they shine on the track where the fast shifting is nice.
If the SMG pump itself fails, it's a lot of money. But that happens very rarely. Usually, it's other stuff. Hood sensor, salmon relay, tranny temp sensor, that $2 spring for the 3-4 issue, etc. The second most expensive fix is the accumulator, which is $450, or the gear position sensor, which is like $350. Both of those aren't that bad, and considering that M3 owners like to charge like a $3k premium on manuals (which is hilarious, by the way), SMG to 6MT swap is financially viable. Not only that, you can jump straight to nice parts, like AutoSolutions SSK and new bushings all the way around.
Don't get me wrong, I'd still rather get a manual, as well. It just gets on my nerves because I'm looking for an M3 as well, and tons of people tell me to avoid SMG like the plague, but the only thing they can offer is "my buddy with an M told me so," when I ask them why. RAGE.
For example, two Jet Black M3's listed FS in the bay area. One is a 2004 with 95k miles and is in cherry condition. It's SMG, and he's asking 16.5k for it.
The other is a guy from M3Forum. Car has visible dents down to the paint, a few decent mods, but is overall in far worse condition. His kind old soul graciously dropped the price to $21.75k recently. What a nice guy. All because it's a manual.
Dang man! If you want a SMG, I won't stop you, I just prefer 6MT over everything else. I strongly feel I get the best driving "experience" with driving MT. But if you want the SMG, that's great, I just hope you don't regret not waiting for a 6MT car if that's what you really want.
It's all the sameone is just electronically actuated. If it breaks, swap it with Manual parts. No biggie.
But I've been doing a shit load of reading on the Porsche 951 Turbo S and it's performance capability...now I really want one. 247hp/243tq, the best part is that the car weighs 2990 lbs.

No offense, not my favorite Porsche, but my dad had a 944 turbo and said I quote "that little bastard was pretty fast". This coming from a guy that's owned the who's who of muscle cars. You name it, he's likely had it. That's good praise on an 80's looked down upon Porsche. Go for whatever you prefer bud.
None taken. It's as 80s as it gets lol. No one really loved the 944s I don't get it, just because the engine was up front and had a radiator it got no respect from the Porsche crowd. Would love to own one again, but still waiting on numbers from insurance.

Being a true man who drives manual, I would never consider SMG. Firstly, I don't need a computer to do things for me. I regularly check e-mail with my own brain by tapping into the matrix like Neo himself. Secondly, I want to have total, pure control of the car, though park assist would be epic. Thirdly, complicated parts mean complicated fixes; I'd rather worry myself with simple fixes like welding the subframe, reconfiguring the cooling system, and adjusting valves with my eyes closed every 7 miles. Fourthly, all of my friends who use the internet say SMG is terrible, and I believe everything my friends say they read on the internet.
In sum, no SMG for me. :)
Joking aside -- I've never driven it. How's the experience?
Yeah got a week and a half of vacation coming up. Going to let it all sink in and make an educated decision.
My thoughts are this: buy back ZHP and part it out. Pay off my loan with the CU with the funds from the pay out. That will put me in good standing with them. Apply for a new auto loan. Possibly a CPO'd BMW or similar. Or if I find a car for a better deal, take another personal loan out.
Both financing options will provide an extremely low interest rate. Best part is, my ZHP will still be around and making some cash from the part out. When it's fixed it will be a track car, eventually making my way into the Spec racing series.

Lol, Marc, I thought you would have driven at least one SMG BMW! When I test the one I'm looking at I will report back.
