Cleaned the Zhp yesterday, so of course it rained today

So my friend’s e46 died at 1/2 tank on the highway and wouldn’t restart. Turned out to be the fuel pump. Since he wants to sell it anyway, I changed out my fuel pump for a new one I’ve had lying around and gave him the old one. Works just fine and only 40k miles on it.

Did you use the BMW Genuine Part or OEM fuel pump?

VDO. Surprisingly, the one I pulled off my car was also a VDO. They are OE, without the bmw logo

That was the brand that I also pulled out when my fuel pump went Kaput. So I ordered and replaced with genuine part. And genuine part was also VDO.

So, what gives with the original BMW part? I know the fuel pump was never replaced before I did.

BMW contracted with VDO to produce the pump for them.

So now FCP is selling Genuine BMW part. Is BMW now producing their own and veering away from VDO or just retagging the brand?

I just ordered a VDO pump from FCP. It's labeled as VDO.
