Do the wiper arms need to come off? I stopped them in the extended position when I lubed the blower and the linkage was pretty well out of the way.
I do need to reset their positioning anyway. They're a little low so the end of the passenger blade clips the hood. Another good thing about a southern car -- the arms won't be rusted to the spindles!
No. Leave the wipers and cowl for another day ;-)

Got in some garage time this weekend and swapped out the chirping blower motor. It really wasn't bad at all. Not sure what people do differently that gives them so much trouble.

The part that I ordered ended up not being a Behr. It doesn't seem to be balanced very well and you can see the blades oscillating while it's spinning. There is even some vibration in the car when it is on full blast. I'll have to drive it for a bit to see if it's an issue or if the old blower did that and I never noticed.
EDIT FOR ANYONE THAT COMES ACROSS THIS LOOKING FOR A REPLACEMENT BLOWER: DON'T BUY THIS ONE. It wasn't balanced and squeaked and vibrated and was really just a piece of shit. I cleaned the dust off the the old blower and really got down into the bearings (not the motor windings!) with some dry lube and let it sit for a few days before reinstalling it. It's been quiet so far, but I haven't tested it in the cold.

GOOD ENOUGH
The gasket was in one piece and came out without much of a fuss. Just stiff/compressed.

I had no trouble getting the alternator back in once I realized that the bitch bolt went into a brass bushing of sorts.

Just threaded the bolt in a bit and gave it some love taps with a hammer. No problem aligning it with the extra space.

That ish is 🔥🔥🔥
awesome work, man! that OFHG before/after cleaning shot looks very familiar... i've got a few pics like that. :)
yep, i didn't find any issues with the alternator bolts either. easy breezy.
and LOL @ the 'under the hood tunes' - love it. we listen to some very different music. :)
Good stuff

It's too bad nobody makes a high quality OFHG that lasts longer than 30K miles.
Well in my ZHP it was exactly at 30K. I did it at 100K and at 130K right before I sold it.
Figured I would share this deal in case anyone else was looking for tires. Great deal, but ends today, so you best be ready to sling some plastic...

I used it to grab a set of 235/40-18 Cooper Zeon RS3-G1's for the 18x9 wheels that I picked up a while back. Total was $576 shipped w/ an additional $100 mail in rebate from Cooper.
To answer your questions:
LOL Cooper WTF bro?!?!
I've been reading about how much people love their RS3 series tires for a while and this new G1 is supposed to be top shelf. Couldn't pass up the deal for a set under $500 with a 50k mile warranty.
All seasons? More like NO SEASONS LOL!!!
I was planning on going with true summer tires (PSS, duh), but I realized that summer tires would be an issue with me taking this car to the mountains every weekend for trips. If I have to park in a muddy lot or off the side of the road near a trailhead, all-seasons will be much better at getting out of there. Another good example was a few weeks ago when it was 75F in Charlotte, so we decided to run up to our favorite section of the AT where it was 25 freakin degrees. I was wearing shorts too! Summer tires no likey.
235's on a 9" wheel LOL HELLAFLUSH STRETCH BRO
Seems small, I know, but section width isn't what is going to determine stretch. These tires have a wide, square tread similar to the PSS (tread width on the 235 = 8.5in). It'll be just a bit of a stretch, which I prefer for cornering sidewall stability.
Track day bro. Hoosiers bro.
Maybe one day, bruh. I need these for DD duties tho.
curious to see how they do!
dude... coop's on the coupe.
Y'all can link to this post in a few years when I inevitably get on here cursing about how I can't get this new serpentine belt to fit...yeah I got the right part number for the M54 come on guys something is wrong!
Now, onto the zzzzzip size comparisons:Quote:
Dear Future Dumbass,
You put underdrive pullies in this car in 2017, dumbass.

I like how far they pushed the envelope on oversizing the water pump pulley. Look at this clearance!

Can't wait to feel my 3-5hp!
Have the same ones on the wife's zhp. I did not bother with the alternator pulley though.
Overall not a bad mod.
That's the clearance on the UUC pulley too. I definitely noticed a difference. I think Ryan (Rkeeshaw) noticed a 10HP increase in upper RPMs on the Dyno IIRC.
I used Coopers years ago on almost all of my vehicles at the time... they make a really decent tire.
The crank pulley is never under driven so it won't affect AC
GUYS HELP I'M TRYING TO FIND A POSITRAC DIFFERENTIAL SO THAT I CAN KEEP THE REAR END UNDER CONTROL
TOO MUCH POWER
SEND TIRES
Nah I can't tell any difference yet, but I haven't had a chance to open it up. My commute is <10 minutes and <40 mph.
I'm thinking that the alternator pulley might make the biggest difference of the three since it's so tiny to begin with. The stock one is also heavy steel, while the Turner pulley is lightweight aluminum. Not that weight is much of an issue on such a small diameter, but I'll take all the free power that I can get.
The only way that I could see it being an issue is if your wife has a massive stereo setup in the trunk with multiple amps. I confirmed with Turner before I ordered that they had tested with Xenons on and both butt toasters on full toast. Might as well throw it on the next time you have the alternator off to replace the OFHG...
Yeah those plastic pulleys felt very brittle in hand. Any plastic wire loom in the engine bay already crumbles if you make eye contact with it. Does that happen to Canada cars too? You and your stupid perfect headliners...
Damn that's really impressive. It would make sense that I don't feel a difference at low rpm, as the change in diameter will be more pronounced as the speed of rotation increases.
Pumped about the Coopers. I feel like people have been sleeping on them for years. They're doing a big marketing push for this new generation of RSA's, so I wanted to grab them before they got popular and the incentives went away.
Yeah, the A/C pulley has it's own belt coming off of the crank. I was thinking that I should have replaced that belt at the same time, but it looks fine and if it were to fail I'd only be without A/C -- not exactly catastrophic.
People have said that they noticed an increase in steering weight at low rpms. I didn't notice a difference when driving to work/parking, but I've been driving my Mazda for two weeks so the steering is going to feel crazy heavy anyway.
LOL. i'll happily trade sagging headliners for RUST. i hate that stuff.
the plastic still gets brittle up here, but i don't think as bad. i've replaced my WP pulley with aluminum, but not the PS pump yet. on the to-do list. might try out those pulleys you got.
exactly. i spend a lot of time (relatively speaking) pulling to redline in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears so i would love that.
I didn't notice any steering difference, Nor did I notice any change in temp and it was hot as hell here last year... I thought I noticed the engine revved a little easier as well ... did you notice that at all?
Well, I'd say that this is a clear picture of why I didn't notice a difference on my commute and why they would probably be more noticeable when you're playing tag with the rev limiter.
https://1c2a8a2161d644d95009-22d26b3...e46pullies.jpg
Well don't just sit there, go out and be the stereotypical BMW driver and rev that shit out to redline everywhere on your morning commute.
For science.
Thought that I could spare 5 minutes to go ahead and pop the clear reflectors in...45 minutes later I had one reflector on and was putting the fender liner back in for the third time. Everything that could have gone wrong did, per usual.

Really makes me appreciate how silly the bumper reflector looks at all, be it amber or clear.
That's frustrating. I didn't have any real problems when I replaced mine with color-matched "reflectors" from Bimmian. I opted to use my wide trim tool for the removal process that made it very easy.
Night and day, Nate.
I wish I could buy pre-painted ones (grumbling and muttering about stupid unique paint colors).
I'm going to leave mine in place, mask everything off around it, and paint. There's some overspray from when Peter's paint guy resprayed my bumper and I'm afraid to remove them.
looks good, nate! much better.
