Dude I did it in the ZHP. and your drive from Houston to Sac isn't that bad. Get a cheap room for a night at the border of NM and NV, and make it into two 14 hour drives, with a two hour rest period at the seven hour mark. Have plenty of water with you and keep the temps cooler than you prefer to keep you alert.

You'll be back on Sunday morning. Hope you can work it out!

He's going to Denver, even closer! But I understand why he wants someone with him. I think he could do the drive in one day.

Oh dude...you better go now! I thought this car was in Houston, connecting in Denver. That's how my flight was last year. Connected in Denver, then a jump to SL,UT.

I work Sunday morning. Need to be home by Saturday evening, but it's still a 17 hour drive, stops and fuel not included.
