Huh - I am at a loss
Hopefully someone more savvy and experienced with the installation will chime in soon.

BP said he knew what was wrong so hopefully he can fix it tonight.

Follow the video. It's to connect the drivers to the scanner.
Yeah I did but I was missing something. The cd provided is basically a coaster as it won't work in anything but a pull/pop out cd drive, none of which I have out of my 4 computers.

BP got me squared away. I was able to code out my airbag light for a solid 10 minutes till it came back on.
:(

Cool, glad you got it going. Windows can be an exercise in frustration... even when you know what your doing :)
Well at least it hooked up properly. Now to just figure out how to get the damn airbag light off. Thought I unchecked the right box, maybe not?

That was same issue I was having

I still can't get this thing to work. The video above I can't see whats going on plus it's way to fast for computer challenged individuals. :facepalm
I took my laptop and PA Soft over to my friends house, he is an IT guy and even he couldn't get this to work. I thought this was a simple plug and play deal? I'm beyond frustrated at this point.
This looks like a pretty standard driver installation, so I'll see if I can watch the video and help out.
Most important thing when dealing with drivers that don't auto-install is to remember to unzip them to somewhere you can find them.
Create a folder called 'BMW scanner drivers' on your desktop.
Unzip contents of scan software to the folder 'BMW scanner drivers'
Right click on Computer (or My Computer) go to 'Manage'.
Select 'Device Manager'
Expand 'Other Devices'
Right Click BMW Scanner
Select 'Update Driver'
Select 'Browse my computer for driver software'
'Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer'
'Show all devices' > Next
Select 'have disk'
Browse to Desktop > 'BMW scanner drivers' > 'BMW Scanner 140 Tony'
Select driver folder
- if on Win 7, select 'Drivers - Windows 7'
- if on XP, select 'Drivers - Windows XP'
Select ... ??? 'ftdvbus.inf' ? Press 'OK'
Select 'USB Serial Converter A' > Next > Yes
"Windows has successfully updated your driver software"
Open file explorer by clicking on folder icon, Windows Explorer, whatever.
Browse to 'BMW Scanner 140 Tony'
Go into BMWScan140 folder
Double-click 'BMWScan140.exe'
Let me know if that doesn't work and I will install it myself and let you know what's missing. Good luck.
Thanks Jay. I will try that some other day when I'm not so frustrated. Working out in my 100 degree garage makes it difficult.
When I had the cable plugged into the laptop and OBII port with the ignition in position 2 I had the "Green" light for drivers installed and the "Yellow" light for BMW scanner adapter not plugged in.
Hmmm OK then I would say you don't need to redo the drivers steps.
A lot of times emulators require those to be installed and used on a specific USB port, have you tried a second USB?
A lot of people seem to have issues with setup so I'm curious if I will hit those as well. Maybe I'll get to it before my trip. I'll update.

I did try another USB port, no dice. But I do have two others I didn't try. Very well could be the problem.
Plug it into the car and try it with the car at position two.
I had a similar issue trying to get the head to communicate. I fixed by doing a wipe and reload on the laptop. I'm sure that's something you don't want to hear... In my case there was something left over from a previous install... Who knows what but that's Microsoft for you. The only course of action left for me was wipe/reload
My friend that's a computer guy did that after I couldn't get it to work the first time. I'm now running 64 Bit Windows 7 Professional.
Found a good video using PA Soft 1.4
Bump
I'll grab one from you Tony
Will this same software work on an E90?
I'm gonna attempt to get this thing working this weekend.
I just spent 4 Hours trying to get this dam thing to work, NO luck! [emoji35]
I had trouble earlier, but just plugged it in, turned on the car, and started the software and that worked. What is your issue?
I've done that also. Basically does not recognize its even plugged in.

Appears the driver still isn't installed.

Anyone (looking in BP's direction) know if this will work on an E90? I also have a K+D CAN cable which I believe is for INPA I guess.
Thanks for the help.
GoingHAM mobile
This won't work for a e90. You would need version 2.1 for e90. Also the inpa cable use different drivers and settings. Lots of info on bimmerpost.
Ok thanks buddy, couldn't find the 2.1 cable on Amazon for some reason
GoingHAM mobile
Cool thanks. Do I need different software or is it just a different cable?
GoingHAM mobile
I would not know. I don't use those.
Ok I'll get in e90post and ask around. Thanks for the help

It's got the PA soft software disc I just don't have a CD drive to install it from there.
