The original color of the mesh was black. It does appear to be simply weathered. If you take a nail to the surface, you'll see that it comes off, revealing the original black behind it.
What did you guys use to clean the surface with so the paint sticks?
I hosed it down and washed it with soap and a small scrubbing brush. Don't forget that the bracket behind the mesh too, it goes white as well so it also needs to be painted for best results.
I've never noticed it as a problem on my car. Now I fear it'll bug me after seeing these lol
I think we "sedans" can pop it out without removing the bumper, correct? (he asks hopefully)
When I painted mine (sedan) I popped it loose and masked off the rest of the car's nose- painted in place. Seemed easier than trying to remove it!
It's pretty easy to get the bumper off, which makes the job cleaner. Having done it once, I'd probably be able to have it off in less than 10 minutes. If I had the choice between masking and taking the bumper off, I'd still pull the bumper.
