If you were to open your fuel pump, and see this type of hose clamp, would you think this is the original pump?

He could have reused the clamp. BP just said he did it and I've done it myself with those style clamps in a pinch. Not ideal, but if it's been fine for 32k miles then it ain't going anywhere.Quote:

It looks like there's a date code printed on the fuel pump - just above the hose clamp in your pic. If that is indeed a date code and it says mfg in 2004 then uhhh...
I might have to open the back seat again and take a look. It also says VDO next to the electrical input. That’s the OEM if I’m not mistaken, but usually when it’s genuine bmw there’s a roundel somewhere in the vicinity...Quote:

Right, there's a roundel stamped on the other side of the plug for the OE BMW part, but the VDO stamp is also there. The roundel is likely shaved off for the VDO part. Roundel would still be there if the shop bought the pump from the dealer, so won't tell you much.Quote:
