I haven't looked at the screw thread but I mounted my pewter Georgia Tech Alumni surround using Allen-head screws. Since the lower screw holes are covered by the plate surround, I screw those in first then the plate surround. It has a clean and yet 'engineered' look with the Allen-heads!
