At this Ikea, you get to look at the USS Unites States in the background :thumbsup

I LOL'd at that ;)
Shame to see the SS United States in the state she is in though.... she deserves so much better....
nice. but that's kind of cheating, letting it hang out... ;) hahahahaha. where's the orange flag on the rear? :)
it IS fun. i should hire myself out while i'm there as a packing consultant.
+1000. that was sweet, william!
LOL!!! well-played, shawn! :cheers
I just started pulling the seat apart to see if I could find the reason why the back rest doesn't heat up...

What's this?
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...45d64b8b3c.jpg
A clue!
Now to figure out where the other end is...
Bummer, but should be an easy fix.
Any updates on the FSD install or pics?
Ugh...FINE.
Install went well. Rears were, of course, stupid easy. The FSD's came with their own bump stops installed under the dust boot and I added new Rogue RSM's, so the only part that I reused was the lower bolt.

The fronts were a headache because I was hell bent on not using Chinese death traps aka spring compressors.
I used my go-to method of supporting the strut with a jack...
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...a263cb27ef.jpg
Then popped the rubber grip tube out of a 13/16" spark plug socket...
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...b820a993e4.jpg
So that I could run an Allen wrench through the center...
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...f69c407d15.jpg
And remove the strut nut while holding the tube in place...
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...3ef25fde68.jpg
Then slowly lowered the jack and was able to fish out the spring...
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...36f11b990e.jpg
Marked the strut mount, and removed it separately...
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...9a1bcc68e6.jpg
And swapped over the bump stops, dust boots, and spring pads to the ridiculous new gold struts...
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...cdbc715bad.jpg
THEN I ran into a wall. I reassembled as I had taken everything apart and tried with all of my might to get the strut to feed up through the mount. I fought and cursed and went through three iterations of guide pin contraptions with no success.
I gave up, had a beer, and prepared for what was to come the next day.

I was very, very patient with these dinky things and must have stopped three times to undo my progress and reset the compressors after they had slipped around the spring a bit. The amount of unstable potential energy in these things terrifies me.
BUT WE SHALL OVERCOME

Now my obnoxious gold shocks are in (and thankfully hidden from view) and they ride like a freaking dream. Way smoother than I was expecting, and I was already familiar with these tubes of magic. I'm excited to see how the car rides once I get the interior back in.
That's a good idea to get the spring off, never thought of that one. before. Nice work.
My face is too pretty to have a spring shoot through it.
I really like it for safety and convenience. I'm pretty sure I could have used that method for the install if I were swapping out to a shorter spring like H&R's. These BMW springs are just crazy long. Now that I think about it, I don't know that a non-sport spring could be removed like that.
Good Job. Would be curious to see how it rides compared to Koni Yellow/H&R
At least those spring compressors are more substantial than the even more cut-rate Chinese ones I first had.
Glad to hear you're liking the FSDs
Was it there before?

Nah trunk was probably replaced after it was rear ended. I can't find a number anywhere.

dude, that mount is toast!
at least you've got some gold bling in there.
you heard about my incident earlier this year, right? about 2.5 weeks before you and spenser were here.
anyway. yeah. i'm DONE with those things. i bought a new spring compressor that i'm still not-so-anxious to try out, but it should be a lot safer. will be using it soon.
This was exactly what he and I said. Luckily no one has become a cyclops yet! I'm probably just going to heed Nate's advice and take them to a shop, pay them $30 or whatever, and have them preload. My face isn't as pretty as his, so I definitely can't afford to get hit with a flying spring.
LOL. i bought one of these... hoping it works. will wear a face mask when i use it, just in case.

Finally making some progress on the red car! Got distracted by some other stuff the past few weeks (travelling, getting engaged, buying a wagon, etc). Bunch of bullshit really.
So while I've got the interior torn out of this thing, I figured it was a good time to show off my custom purple rear deck and green Alcantara rear headrests, the results of 10 years of hard work by Florida $un Customz.

The fabric paint that I used is actually a thin dye and goes on exactly how the Amazon reviews described!

Like f#$@ing spewing diarrhea.
But! I was able to piss and dribble enough to even it out by hand and got some solid results:
