That's normal for a fresh gasket. That'll settle after a few heat cycles.
I started out that way but i saw other people online do it also around the side screws on the edge of the vanos areaQuote:

I think I pulled this off an E28, maybe it was an E23... can't remember. Apparently 9/85-> production (86 MY) has a different spline count so you can't use anything after that date. Looks like crap but at least it's 1" smaller than the school bus steering wheel. I'll have to do a few mods to make it fit perfect but it's good enough for now.
