JP, did you use plasti gage to measure the tolerance before you installed? What is like to work with?
I need to start assembling the S52 I have at home..
We measured the rods themselves. It's a pita
Look at the rod cap. You can tell they ground it a little bit where I marked with green

Yes. It doesn't matter much but since we're going for maximum tolerances it has to be perfect. Ben builds race engines and is anal so we just do what he wants.
They machine the hole so it is correct again, that's where we think the missing .25mm went. On a normal street engine it wouldn't matter since most M10s don't run that high of compression, but since we're going for 11.5:1 we need it correct.
For example, Ben built this two weeks ago for my buddy Mark while he was out here to put my head together:

That is running 13:1 with a 316 cam so tolerances are important. This is why he needed a new engine
Attachment 18673
So what do you use to install them?
Sent from my Nexus 6
I used this:
Attachment 18728
It's actually a bearing race install tool
And a BFH?
Medium FH ;)
(You can see it in the background)
Found a late NK single belt crank pulley (cast). I need to dig some more because we think an early one is around here somewhere (stamped)

I'll definitely let you know if I need anything. Thanks!
Crank pulley cleaned. I'll paint it tomorrow

In case you're interested in numbers
Stock E21 pulley = 1.9lbs
Cast NK = 1.7lbs
Stamped NK = 1.1lbs
I need to dig some more but I might have found a stamped one
I may need to hire you to help with my S14.

Oil pan, crank pulley, water pump installed. I reused my E21 water pump; I thought about going to the E30 setup but I don't see the need to move my radiator forward to the M20 position yet

Next up is alternator bracket and starter. Then comes head, intake, and wiring.
Awesome work! That's one hell of a background for the engine pics. Focused more on them than the build lol.
Great work, come assemble my S52 next, lol.
hahahaha... thanks! Yeah, the M88 and Katy Perry make good friends for my engine.
lol... I have no experience with M5x internals. I have disassembled a M54B30, but I didn't pay that much attention; I was just trying to get the crank.
Thanks Brett! I doubt I will be having any concours photos photos soon, I still need a new paint job.
I did clean up the pulley a little bit. I needed to polish the front seal surface so I got the fur off at that point ;)

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...7AAB92007E.jpg
Installed the rest of the coolant hoses and the thermostat. I think I might change the alternator to the 80A 318i version from the 90A 325i version I currently have. I don't really need the extra 10 amps as the stock E21 was something stupid like 65A, but because the 90A is a hard mount vs the 80A has bushings and is the correct one for an E30 M10.
