Well, technically I'm a day late as I did this yesterday, but I was too whooped last night to get online... So, yesterday brought a few local buddies together for a little hangout at my house, centered around a diff swap in my car.

Swapped to the 3.46 that I picked up locally for $100. :) Its been raining cats and dogs ever since, but man, the car feels SO lively now, I'm really happy with it. Of course, I was responsible and replaced all the diff seals as well when we swapped the flanges, and I put in fresh Redline 75W90 as well, even though the "old redline" was only about 4K miles old... :facepalm

Pics? Sorry no pics taken.. Imagine white ZHP in the garage, Imola ZHP sedan, silver ZHP sedan, and E90 M3 sedan all in the driveway... Oh and a Jeep... :biggrin

The A/C system in these cars is supposed to have a variable compressor, which is to say, it's not just "on" or "off", but can be a selective drain on the system according to how badly it's needed. Despite this I still see a pretty noticeable difference: I ran this way all summer and show a pretty solid fuel log trend that I lose between 2-4mpg compared to driving with the A/C off.

i wonder if the window regulators thing is mainly a sedan problem. cause i use the windows all the time on my coupes and it's fine. on my sedan, i used it rarely (didn't like that the wind would hit the pillar and hit my ear) and it failed like twice lol

More prevalent on sedans, more expensive on coupes because you need a jig to align the frameless glass

Edit: you don't even want to know what they cost for E38 double pane insulated glass regulators

Congrats on the new diff Jon! I agree the 3.46 livens up the car....makes it so much more fun to drive in my opinion :)

Of course I'm a little bit biased ;)

Did you find anything out slash does anyone have any insight into doing the zip tie "install" with a brand new regulator for good measure?

It definitely livens up the car. The biggest thing I noticed was that the car doesn't seem to run out of power in the upper RPMs... It just feels so much stronger up top. Granted, its all an illusion as the speedo doesn't go up any faster, but it definitely feels like it has a lot more punch. The wide open throttle grin is a little bigger now, that's for sure. :biggrin

I did the zip tie mod on the one regulator I replaced. It might not be necessary, but I'm a big fan of using the windows, so if it helps extend the life, I'm all for it. Good luck, not a hard job at all. :thumbsup

This is probably my plan for the summer. Let's see how much more petro it uses. And turn off the Auto on winter.
