Ugh, I need to update this with dates and mileage.

I checked with Mike @Coby. He does not carry the alc. with backing on it which he said we need. I'll keep looking for a source.

Part is Trunk lid grip with key button: P/N 51137170966 and Gasket, trunk lid grip P/N 51138236267

Also looks like the I need to replace a HID fog. This one is inop

I don't know anything about HIDs so any recommendations are welcome. For now I have removed both as in VA if they are installed, they have to work.

Go to DDM Tuning to replace your fog HIDs. You can get a new Slim ballast 35W HID kit for $29.95

This is the kit I have installed in both my cars Shawn...had them over three trouble-free years so far :thumbsup

Shawn, the kit comes in pairs so for the money these kits are awesome. I run 6000k presently but would recommend 5000k for a more white appearance. You will also get more distance with white but then get the 5000k D2S bulbs from this site as well so you have even color distribution on your lighting :thumbsup

The kits and bulbs are very cheap and last a long time :thumbsup

I have my two ballasts that I took off when I did the LED fog retrofit. One of them works just fine, the other not so much. You can have the one that works if you want it.

Condition: You take the bad one too. :p

I can't figure out if TRUNK LID GRIP WITH KEY BUTT (51-13-7-170-966) actually separates. The pics I've seen show it in multiple pieces, but it sure doesn't want to come apart.

Thanks guys.
Update on repairing the license plate light. I dropped the trunk liner and disconnected the trunk grip mechanism. Heat gun, flat tip and non-marring pry tool did the rest.
There are 8 tabs on the painted cover. There is also some type of adhesive.

I broke clips trying to get mine apart yesterday, I have the unpainted piece and going to see how much to get painted tomorrow. My other thought was vinyl carbon fiber wrap. Up for suggestions.

Wrap might be a good (cheap?) option. I think the key to getting it apart was the heat Justin recommended.

Was your light out also John?

hey shawn,

i had the same issue with the license plate light on mine - it was very badly corroded. i ended up fixing it for about $3 in parts.

i don't have any pics (i don't take them while i work on stuff ;) ), but what i ended up doing was buying a small generic lamp at the auto parts store (with a similar-sized bulb), and then mounting it to the original gray plastic piece (that has the hole burned through it - mine had the same hole!).

i'll see if i can pop the assembly out and get a pic for you. took me an hour but was well worth the effort (and cost savings).

Thanks Peter. Not a bad idea. Did you solder the wires to the other side?

She passed VA safety and emissions inspection today. Also titled in VA and registered at DMV.

Also, might be worth a call to ask the upholstery/accessory shop near my office here in Arlington if they could repair the Alcantara, I've seen the work they've done on a co-workers leather seats, top notch. Fair pricing as well according to him.

Sure-fit said she needs my to stop by so she can make sure she orders the right fabric and will then give me a quote. I hope to do that tomorrow as I have meetings out in Reston.

Oh and the wheels may be ugly, but now they are clean!
