Reviving this thread with some ZHP content....

    Here we gooooooo......

Jack sent us his AW touring and the nicest AW/NB ZHP sedan parts car. The ZHP which only has 73738 miles had been wrecked in the front end and while there was some damage to the front apron/strut tower area this seems to me like something that should have been fixed. The value of this car must have been so high on paper its really weird to me that it was totaled. BUT luckily for Jack it was because I don't think we could have found a better donor anywhere else.

The plan is to swap just about everything and I mean everything we can from one car to the other. If its compatible from the sedan its likely going on the touring. I have been videoing everything so far and this has added a lot of time to the build which has resulted in me forgetting to take as many pics as I usually do, but as we go along I am trying to be more conscious of that.

    Here's where we are starting...

Prepped and ready for tear down.

I don't know what made me think I had enough room to lay everything out... but here we go.

And 99% of the ZHP disaseembled and I really mean 99%, there isn't much left to unbolt.

Getting ready to go to the great scrapyard in the sky (the doors will come off first).

    Parts.

Prepping the ZHP engine, new coolant pipes, OFHG, CCVV, Valve cover gasket, Oil pan gasket (and safety wired nut)

Wagon engine removal has started and we find its engine is not original, its been replaced sometime in its life.

    To be continued....

Did Jack find her in Copart?

I think it was listed on E46F, the seller asked about retaining it and selling it before it went to the salvage yard and Jack jumped on the deal IIRC.

This car was so nice, such a shame it was totaled, wait until you seat the seats!

Jack and I have been working on a full build for him. I started posting about it a few months back then held off, so I am going to start from the beginning even though some of this is a repeat.

He had an AW on black 5MT touring and while there wasn't anything inherently "wrong" with it there was room for improvement. And when he saw a "lightly" crashed and totaled ZHP he knew what he had to do, ha. And when I say lightly, I mean I can't believe this car was totaled, aside from the superficial parts there was just the smallest bend in the strut tower apron. IMO this was a 20, maybe $25k+ car in 21/22 and maybe even still today. The ZHP had everything you want, 73k miles, Natural Brown heated seat interior, well maintained and a bunch of Dinan parts.

Looking at these two cars you would think there isn't much to this swap, just plop the seats, engine, trans and suspension in the touring and call it a day. But we decided we should swap EVERYTHING that was better from the ZHP into the touring. This meant everything that we could so the first thing was take the ZHP down to the shell. Even though this wasn't my first rodeo I grossly misunderstood how much room I needed to lay everything out.

The small pile of parts from the initial plan...

Started by prepping the engine. New coolant pipes, even though the old ones were in great shape. Its a good maintenance item but also shows the engine has been taken care of and seen "light" use.

    OPN safety wired.

    Ready to rock.

I did a terrible job photo'ing the clean up but you can see some of the results in these two shots.

Amazing project here! Can't wait to see the final result.

Pardon my ignorance, what is this HPB part?

    Fredo,
Its just a 3d printed part I make to cover up openings in the engine and accessories when I'm cleaning them. Here's some more pics of other ones.
