What the hell causes this?
I formatted my card, shot 20 or so shots then my camera tells me its shot.
Anyway to recover this? I don't want to basically throw a 8gb card away

Did you try formatting the card via your PC?

Casey recently lost about 120 pictures because of a bad card. He was not able to recover them. However, his were literally deleted from the card.
In your case, assuming they were not deleted for good, you may fare better. What brand, Kyle? I know there are ways to recover data like this.
Here is a how-to article on recovering lost photos from corrupted cards: http://www.ehow.com/how_4605120_dama...mory-card.html
It's a PNY class 10 card. I could careless about the pictures (although id be nice) I just want to use the card again

Rule of thumb is to chuck cards like that. I could not rely on a card like that again. That's my two cents.
My card went bad several months ago. The camera place I got it from replaced it.

See if you can warranty it - many cards come with a 1 year warranty.
Formatting it via a computer is a good idea - try different file systems (FAT/FAT32/NTFS) and see if that makes a difference. Then try formatting the card with your camera. The only thing I can think of 'going wrong' on a card is the partition information somehow getting messed up. You could try using a tool like Partition Magic (for PC) to delete the partition(s) from the card and create a new one.
I'll look about a warranty. I was able to format it via computer and camera. The camera accepts it now.

My corrupted card cost me $300.00 in refund, then add the cost of replacement at $119.
Sorry, but once a card does something like that, I refuse to put any faith in it. It was non preventable, just shooting and noticed the counter reset to 1....
Just something that happens sometimes. Thankfully it was at a birthday party where I had time to recover and get a few shots for my client in addition to their full refund.
