After all this forum has given me, it's time to give back!
Purpose: To give us a cheap alternative to an audible confirmation of locking and unlocking the car. As a bonus, this will also sound the alarm if the door is opened after the car is armed say if someone breaks the window. It will NOT however have the full functionality of the OEM alarm for tilt sensors and motion sensors.
First, the parts. After reading up on the E46 thread I found that several members had tried using the radio shack 273-060 80 dB Piezo Siren only to find out the chirp was too soft. Later in the thread it was found to use the louder, 102 dB 273-079 which is what I picked up. Cost? $6.49.
I also picked up some butt connectors so that I could extend the wires from the factory plug and give me more flexibility with where I wanted to place the siren. Connectors cost, $2.49
I've got less than $10 in at this point.
Double Sided Tape. I had this laying around already, but can't imagine it's more than a few $$$
Tools: T30 Torx bit. Tip. If you don't have these, you can pick up a set from T15 to T50 for $10 from Sears. It's the Evolve set in the cardboard packaging

Another "Tool" you may need is the BMW Scanner. If you read up on the E46F version of this some folks had to go to the dealership to get the Alarm "Activated" or coded. It's $60+ for that at the dealership and the scanner software and OBDII cable can be had for less than $27 shipped which allows you to code this, but do a LOT more. I'd highly recommend that route, vs the dealer if you need this option enabled (ZKE Module --> Audible lock/unlock, make sure to enable DWA at the very top first)
So, lets get started.
Remove the plastic clips on your cabin filter housing that contain the 2 large diameter wires that cross the engine
Twist the 3 plastic screws to release the cabin filter cover and remove along with cabin filter itself.
Remove the (4) T30 torx bits to remove the Cabin Filter Housing. Remove and set aside. Keep 4 torx bolts with CFH.
Remove AC Blower Motor cover by removing the (2) T30 torx bolts located at each corner. NOTE: These bolts to not come out of the cover plastic. Just loosen until you can feel they are not threaded any longer. Also, you may notice the drivers side is a bit harder to get out than the left side. Pull up and out at the same time. Installing back, I'd suggest you slide in from the passenger side, makes it a little easier.
Now, on the passenger side, either look in or feel around for the cable. Mine was taped back to the same harness it was on. This should be a 4 pin connector
Insert ground on siren to the Black with Blue Strip (bottom left in below diagram) and the power to the Brown with Black Stripe (top left in below diagram)

Before you decide on a location for everything, go ahead and test the functionality.
Here is what I did with mine. I had to extend the wires from the alarm.
