    Bokeh/depth of field Photo Thread

Coming from the Japanese word boke meaning "blur" or "haze", or boke-aji, bokeh is "the way the lens renders out-of-focus points of light" (http://photojpn.org/words/len.html), this side of photography is one that fascinated me even before I knew what it was. The day I bought my first camera, I bought a 50 1.8, and that was the main lens I shot with. The bokeh just always made me smile.

This thread is dedicated to shots created by YOU, strictly YOU.

    Let's see everyone's contributions!

I'll keep adding mine as we go along!

    Please follow the below pattern:

    Shot with Canon 5Dmkii and a 50 1.4

For some reason I caught on this trend as well. By using a stock lens though and only shooting at 3.5, it's been limited.

However, these are some of mine

A tiny bit blurry, but this is literally the first shot I took with the 50.

Not sure I see any bokeh here in the last few posts... just shallow DOF

Bokeh is out-of-focus points of light, I don't see much light in these... or do I have bokeh all wrong?

No. I think you have it right. There are actually 2 styles of bokeh. Hollywood style, and cream cheese style.

Hollywood style is where you have the typical circular lights in the background, out of focus.

Creamcheese is where objects in the background are completely washed out and out of focus. I think several photos here have zero bokeh.
