Can I get a list of steps for that? I feel like the number of beeps before he engaged the starter was important.

I'll bet if you disconnected the fuel pump the lights would still go out as they have nothing to do with fuel pressure.

My car usually starts a lot easier if I wait about 2-5 seconds after turning the key to the "on" position.

I've noticed that too... I turn the key so that the fuel pump engages wait 1-2 seconds then start it. It usually starts easier... meaning it cranks less to turnover

My car starts right up, even if I go right to the start position from the off position....? Is there a known issue with slow starts on older/more abused cars? I'm still confused about this thread.

Never heard of this... Mines an 01 with 104,000 on the clock original fuel pump and fires right up from the off position... I think this is one of those things you think works so you convince yourself
