This car has a button with a picture of a speaker on it right next to the DSC override switch. It does change the sound somewhat. What exactly is it doing? What is this button for?

I don't have that speaker button on my HK, but everything I've read people equate it to a "loudness" button. So, it doesn't do much but again, that's not first hand.

Pretty much is makes your system sound like a surround sound rather than hearing it from four corners. It is a pretty impressive thing I would say. It's only on the HK system
To me it elevates the sound stage - i'm not sure if it does it by putting a light delay on the closer speakers or what, but I think it moves the effective acoustic center closer to your head area.
Could be pure speculation but I had an old alpine deck that allowed manual selections for delay of each channel to move the acoustic center and the resultant effect sounded pretty similar to what that button does.
I like my sound better with the button de-selected.

It's called frequency manipulation. It's the same basic idea as "surround sound" headphones. By making small variations to the frequencies, it makes it seem as if the speakers and the sound are right next to your ear (or when you are gaming in headphones, it emulates sound coming from directions, like behind you, or to the left of you) instead of coming from the speakers. To many this sounds like increased sound stage, but sound is a personal preference. To me it makes my music sound hollow. I leave it off.
Techno music and trance can sound hollow ? Lol
Sounds to me like it's just putting more power into the front speakers - especially the tweeters.
