There are certain 'umbrella' (tier 1 or 2) companies that own different companies who will sell more value-oriented tires (for example, Hankook is launching Laufenn). Other tier 1 companies own mid market and lower brands as well to more effectively compete for different customers. I believe certain companies may also make specific tires for say, wal-mart, that you can't buy elsewhere. (I'm not 100% on that though.) But anywhere you buy a Pilot Super Sport you'll get the same exact tire as if you were to purchase it elsewhere. Same as a conti dws from Tire Rack will be the same conti dws you'll get from discount. Etc, etc.
