Well... you read it. That's the best way to describe it. There is this whale cry sound that happens fairly quickly when I crank the car AND the heat is on (or the a/c is NOT on and the blower is blowing). It does not do it if the blower (fan) is not on. It sounds like it is coming from the driver's side of the engine compartment, fairly close to the cabin... but I may be wrong.
It sounds like some sort of vacuum... maybe a leak?
Thoughts?

How many miles does your car have? Both of mine have done it. I thought it was the blower motor located near the firewall. If someone can confirm? I heard it's a tedious job and that we would want to buy an official BMW part because it comes apart making it easier to replace... Maybe someone knows a repair option?

I do not believe the "coming apart" part. The BMW sensor you know will be good. Many knockoffs have been installed that either daily prematurely or never work from the get go.
Unsure If this is cause of whale moan however.

Blower sounds like a good guess.
Definitely doesn't look like a fun job from what I've read.

I replaced a blower motor on an E30 and I never want to a blower motor again.

If I can replace the blower motor anyone can, but yes its a PITA. haha. Definitely a lower back killer. Also, if you figure out this is the problem, you need to get a blower motor from a X3. So much cheaper than the 3 series one also from the dealer and fits fine. I posted a thread with all the details a long time ago (I had to replace my motor due to chirping).
