Kristen has driven the car for a few days now with the rev match turned off and she loves it so it looks like we'll be keeping the car now. :)

Next on the list, bypassing the ADS but that will have to wait until Christmas because I'm doing that for her as one of her presents.

BP, thanks again for finding that for me!!!

I'm just glad you didn't get rid of a great car because of something stupid that can be fixed by coding! I was shocked when I saw that being mentioned.

Yea I was pretty bummed when she said she hated the car after selling a great car, all the excitement of the M2 coming over from Germany and the performance center delivery.
The honeymoon was definitely over at point lol.
I think she’ll really love the car once we add the bigger turbo and other parts

When I drove the f8x during m track days, I kept the window down because I wanted to hear the exhaust, but all I could hear was wind noise. So I closed the windows and then I could hear the engine/exhaust quite well. For a few seconds I couldn’t figure out how I was able to get more engine/exhaust noise with the windows up but then it hit me...

Is it possible to code that out? If it is that would be awesome

Sockethead

yes, it can be coded out or hard wired out with a bypass harness. Some people have had unexpected results after coding out and I don't see any reason the ever active it again so I got the bypass harness...

Got Kristen a few things for the car for Christmas. I really wanted to get the rear spoiler for her (and me!) but it’s pretty expensive and wanted to her to have more than 1 gift to open.
Got her the ASD bypass harness and a black chrome M2 emblem for the trunk.
The Emblem came from IND. I’ve mentioned before that the stuff from them is pretty damn expensive but it’s all high quality. You can really tell the difference from the Chinese stuff.
I really want to see the difference without ASD but I have to take the trunk apart to put it in.
Hopefully this weekend!

I’m really liking the car without the auto rev matching but to be honest, there are times I want it back. The car needs new pedals to make heal/toe easier.
I still wish they put a switch or a setting in iDrive. Coding it takes too long to do on the fly

I'm curious about the ASD bypass as well!

Is hill assist still active with the clutch 1st switch disable?

Sockethead
12-28-2018, 06:27 AM
Hopefully, I'll be putting that harness in tomorrow if it's not raining.
Yes, hill assist is still active. From what I can tell, it only disables rev matching. You have to hit the start button twice though, once to turn the car on, then again to start it. and you have to hold it in slightly longer to get it to fully start. If hit it quickly the second time, it will start then immediately stall. Good theft deterrent! Once you've started it a few times, you get used to it...

It was over 70° today. Perfect weather for working outside on the car. The bypass harness was pretty easy to install. Just had to take out the left side of the trunk liner. It was as easy as unplugging the connector from the amp, plugging that into one end the harness and plugging the other end back into the amp.

How do We like ASD turned off? It’s great! The drone at 3k RPM is gone. Overall, the sound level in the interior is much quieter at all speeds. The motor sounds much better too. IDK why the engineers think that pumping sound into the interior is a good idea.

Now that ASD is turned off and rev match is coded out, we’re really liking the car!
Can’t wait to start the performance mods.

A few pics:

Lots of electronics under the trunk floor. I also found the little air compressor, fix a flat and little tool thing. Only comes with the tow hook and a combo screwdriver though.

The amp is behind the left wheel well. The ASD amp is the one mounted vertically. In the picture, I’ve already installed the bypass harness. I think a BMW tech wouldn’t even notice it except for that the bypass harness connector at the amp is black.

Got a chance to drive the car to work today... I'm really liking the car as it sits right now. It sounds great and I'm in control of the throttle instead of trying to figure out what the car want's me to do.
It's so nice having the drone at 3K RPMs gone. When I drove the car to Savannah last summer, That drone was really annoying. I noticed it didn't change in pitch or volume when I changed modes on the Performance exhaust. I didn't really think about it then but it was the ASD causing the drone. I'm so glad that's gone.

We had our first flat in the car the other day Needed a new tire already! Fortunately, Kristen bought a tire warranty when she bought the car. It just paid for half of itself in 6K miles.
I don't know why but we've had more flats since moving here than I did in my whole lifetime up north and I'm getting older than dirt. I think were up to 5 flats on the MDX alone...

Having driven down there a bit for work I can say the roads are pretty crappy, especially in downtown, but they’re no worse than anywhere up north that sees freeze-thaw-freeze mixed in with gouges from plows. That’s really befuddling.

I’ve used Fix-a-Flat twice with success in my old Mazda. Just make sure you warn the tire shop you used it before they dismantle or they’ll curse your name and probably scratch your car/wheels, and ask you never to return. I keep a can in the trunk caddy because the donut won’t clear the front 135i calipers [emoji849]

Fortunately I wasn’t driving the zhp then since it was the middle of winter. Unfortunately the Chevy Cruze I drive in winter has 18” wheels. I got to ride with a colleague who had a full size pick up truck on the same road and it made me realize why so many people buy trucks.

That goo has been standard on all M3s since the E46 days. :)

None of the M3s have spare tires so they get goop since M cars don't have run flats.

Thanks man!! I really like the interface of bimmer code. I wish they had it for the exx cars. Either way, I do have Esys on my laptop that can do more than Bimmercode. Ive played with Bimmercode and it's pretty dope. I like there is an expert mode to mimic Esys. I'll definitely have to look into it more.

Oddly the rear reflectors don't bother me as much as the front orange ones. Either way we will work on that eventually. We only added black kidneys and side gills so far.

We got another car as a beater car so we don't have to rely on the M for a DD. Kristen's BMW dealer is right next to Mini and they gat a 2007 mini that they were going to send to auction.
A original owner with around 130k on the clock. We snagged it for $1500 + $500 employee sale. It had a check engine light for the vacuum pump which was leaking so we got that fixed and got the car detailed. Not the first choice in color but we couldn't beat the price. The only negative is that it's an auto but Kristen loves it and it's in really good shape. She's getting the headlight covers done today. I gotta admit, I really like this little car!

That's a THING!?

We had an issue where the rear driver glass had a nice scratch in the glass and the dealership replaced the glass cause it was unrepairable. We also had an issue with the electric power steering feeling like crap (did not return to center) and they replaced the power steering racks about 2000 miles into the ownership. I heard there is an I-STEP update in July of 2018 that supposedly improves steering feel to mimic M2 competition. I will have to look into that when we take in the F87 for it's annual oil change in the next month.

Special colors are always cursed when it comes to accidents. White would look better anyways!

I will add Jacob "mishaps" instead of accidents... the intent is to be much more general and cover any bad things that can happen when you have a unique color...

I haven’t driven it yet but that what she says
She took delivery and immediately drove to Fla. to see some friends. They didn’t even have time to fully prep it. I can’t blame her though... so much better than driving the mini down there.
Should just about through the break -in period when she gets back... I can’t wait to drive it.

No, 6 speed manual. I haven't driven it yet but hasn't said anything about weird rev matching like to old car

I’m confused, did she swap the wheels from the white comp with the ones on the blue car before selling it?

Yes, the new car came with the wheels you see on the blue car in the pic above but it also had Michelins on it which, she really wanted, so Friday they put both cars on the lift and did a wheel/tire marathon swap. We also kept some of the pieces off the old car: the inserts that replaced the rear deflectors the ASD bypass harness, the front fender emblems.. There was no time to take the CF rear diffuser, the CF mirror shells or the front splitters. We sold it with the performance exhaust too since the competition has a completely different exhaust on it.

I drove the car last night running errands.
I can say that the M2 and the M2 competition are two completely different cars in every way. Even the rev matching is spot on in this car which was one of our biggest complaints in the M2.
The car is so smooth. It reminds me of the ZHP when it was new but with a lot more HP. They did a good job of taking the hit out of the turbos. I can’t really feel any turbo lag either but we’re still breaking it in. Can’t wait to open it up.
The breaks are massive. They take bit to get used to. I’ll have take some pics of them

The M2 is still great cat car but I don’t think it really lives up to true M status.
Kristen calls the M2 an M240i with a wide body which is pretty accurate in IMO

Some S55 motors have issues with the crank hub.

I can’t get over how different the two cars are. Everything about this car is better than the previous M2.
