Charlie... seeing your car makes me realize how much correction I need to do to my paint! It looks great from anywhere outside of about 15 feet, but as you close in, you see the swirls on the hood and roof, and especially on the trunk. We should have a chat about how to get everything back to square-1. I just bought a cordless random orbital, and I have polishes and waxes from Mother's, BMW and Meguiar's. I'm all prepared, now I just need a little instruction!

It's a BMW rack, with BMW bike carriers. He also threw in one of those black leather bra things for free.
I was reading the manual and I think I need some sort of Protectant strips in my mounting points.
What fairing will work on the oem rails? Yakima ot Thule?

As for what I did for my ZHP?

I completed my OEM M3 projector retrofit using ZKW lenses this morning and tested all functions with satisfactory results :thumbsup

BP was kind enough to help me with additional features to my ZHP and now I'm a very pleased owner...:biggrin I will be taking the ZHP out for a nice drive this evening to see results of having the OEM M3 projector with additional pics before working on a good DIY to post here on this forum. Hopefully this will help others as this retrofit can be done for under $200. Unfortunately for coupe owners, I will be primarily focusing on sedan headlight assemblies since my ZHP is a sedan...

Rear regulators cannot be repaired via zip tie method. In addition, it is impossible to reroute the cable due to tight clearances.

Tore apart some of the car. CAI needs to be cleaned, swapped the TB with the Dinan one I had, pulled out the broken DISA valve, cleaned out the ICV valve (or whatever that thing is above the throttle body. Car is apart till the disa comes in on Tuesday.....sigh oh well, maybe I can dig around and find out where that clunk sound on the driver side front comes from when I hit a bump.

Drove A LOT yesterday!

I also messed around with a 911 on the highway. The guy was a total idiot. For about 40 miles we were cruising together and I was admiring his car, such a beautiful car! At the last couple miles before I got off, he was in the left lane, I was in the middle, the 911s nose was at my 3/4 panel, just cruising. I opened my window and gave him a clear thumbs up. He accelerates and gives me the middle finger!!

Then the idiot cuts in front of me to pass a car in the left lane, I really though he had hit my bumper. Boy was I pissed. The ZHP dropped from 5th, throttle blip to 4th and again to 3rd at about 5500rpm. Obviously I knew the 911 was much much quicker but I didn't care I stuck with him as he clearly accelerated. At 110mph he had only pulled a car if that, he was not too happy. To my benefit the nerd didn't know how to drive the car.

I was not very happy, I was admiring the car the entire way, I love Porsches, then complimented him by giving a thumbs up and he acted like a total idiot. On the other side, a ZHP with a proper driver is no slouch, he wasn't too impressed though at the results, it was pretty close honestly. I impressed my dad though, who was in the passenger seat :biggrin Now if the guy knew how to drive it, and started from a standstill I am 100% sure the results would be much different

Sorry for the long story just wanted to share how it doesn't matter what you drive, when someone compliments you, especially on a beautiful car, you say thank you. :shift

Thoroughly cleanedidid my interior/exterior today. I busted out the trusty Swiffer and went to town on the dust. I can now safely say my car is now 96% dust-free...
The rest I would have needed a few q-tips and other brushes for. One of these weekends I want to take out my seats and finally vacuum out underneath them.

I'm proud of all of this, considering the fact that I'm way too lazy and usually way too busy to take an hour and a half to wash the exterior and dust/vacuum the interior. Looks quite beautiful, complimented by the awesome cleaning the Magic Eraser did yesterday. :)

I finally got my new tires put on (conti DWS) and an alignment!

I punctured BOTH of my drivers side tires on the way to the shop. I went over a railroad crossing that evidently is no longer a crossing...because I don't see how its passable. Fortunately I was only a few miles away, put the spare on the front and didn't realize the rear was punctured until I got there. Two big nasty flaps of rubber hanging off my sidewalls. I'm glad I didn't bend a wheel, because it hit HARD. I saw the edge from about 10 feet away and cringed, too late. Needless to say, I went a different way home.

The car is so smooth and quiet now though!

The Tuesday night meet was for all cars, right? A few weeks ago it got busted by cops. They blocked the exits and gave everyone (probably 100+ cars) a $90 ticket for trespassing as they left. Wednesday nights are BMWs, but I've only been once. They are trying to stay away from walmart, last week they went to Outback...I guess that worked well because its being held there again.

...and who needs sleep anyway?

Yeah, that's headache I don't need.
If car groups are on the police's radar, I'm not dealing with it. Sorry...

Perhaps an "official" meet, where we get the property owner's permission; that I would go to. :)

That's not very cool to give all a ticket. They could have given a warning, then the next time ticketed (maybe they did, but it didn't sound like it). I would hate to innocently show up at a meet and later find out I was trespassing and get hit with a $90 ticket.

T.Bird
09-20-2011, 09:50 AM
Evidently some of the officers were telling people that the tickets would not hold up, that if they showed up to contest the ticket it should be dropped. I think the main issue was that this parking lot was a big parking lot, and the cars there for the meet were taking up just about every spot. The BMW meet is small, When I was there it was like 7 cars, I think its usually 10ish...so I doubt we would ever have a problem. I think they ate at outback last time too. It's not like the 100+ cars at walmart were paying customers.

I'd rather turn a wrench that wash a car anyhow ;-) new oil pan gasket..no more leaks. though it was a very tight fit to get off without pulling extra items, just a few little support brackets. was good, got to teach my son something else he'll probably do someday on his on.

I am working on my P0171 code this weekend and found that my DISA valve is broken. When I took it out the pin on the end was just hanging there (lucky). The valve is broken at the bottom of the flapper. I did not have the foresight to order a new DISA before I took it apart. I could repair it or put it back in and wait till the new one comes. If I do put it back I will have to secure the pin and I could glue the flapper to the turning component. Any feedback would be helpful.

Just takin' a break. Doing my ICV right now. When I took it out it did not move. Cleaning everything, manifold ports, etc. Any recommendations about cleaning out the air manifold where the DISA plugs into? I am installing new air intake boots as well. Looks like I should have ordered a DISA too (as this looks to be a common problem)...Hey I am having a blast working on the car (and I'm learning a lot too). Thanks for all your help!

I used that steel puddy to fill the hole where the paddle connects, then put a screw up through the hole to reinforce it. I put some puddy in the hole at the other end for the pin. It moves freely and functions like new. I checked the vacuum of the valve and that is fine as well. Once the puddy hardened it was a solid joint...

installed the AUX input kit today. moderate PITA. hardest part was getting the damn sunglass tray out. i got a minor nick on one piece of cube trim and a few scratches on the ash tray cover, but overall i'm pretty proud i was able to do it all myself. ended up routing the cable down to the center console tray. ipod can now be fully concealed when not in use, ala kayger12's setup. will post a pic tomorrow.

so i have a problem. went for a drive this morning and put on the ipod, noticed sound only coming out of drivers side speaker. passenger side no sound. on the other input channels (CD, radio) sound coming from all speakers. wondering if it's a bad cable? loose aux connector at the harness? man i really dont feel like taking everything apart again. and footballs about to start. grr

Took it in for 80k service, which is a mid point oil change. I brought them the tail light recall, but they said it's not in effect yet. It'll happen eventually. They're checking the belts and front shocks. Holding off on rest of cooling system until 87,500 mi, which will be radiator, thermostat, hoses, flush, expansion tank. Water pump already done. All other items are already on a rotation (tranny, gearbox fluid, spark plugs, fuel pump, etc...)

4 New Conti Extreme Contact DWS, Alignment, Powerflex FCABs :) For a pretty good price @ the local indie shop (saved about $150 by getting all done direct through them, and not tire rack) - got a rebate for a free GPS too...

Car feels so much better. 1st time new tires (old pilots were on their last legs), quiet and straight and no streering wheel wobbles and shakes anymore :)
New Contis are great in wet weather, too - wifey drove in pretty steady rain at 75 mph and the car was really stable. i think I am going to like these tires...

Today, I finally made the coding breakthrough that I've been hoping for.

I finally disabled those f#$%ing seat belt and ignition piezo acoustics when you put the key in the ignition and for when the door is open. That drove me off the wall; I have my door open all the time when I'm testing something in the car with the ignition on, and it's the most annoying sound that I think anyone could come up with. Finally, DISABLED.

I also re-enabled my sidemarkers for the time being until I can get my city lights hooked up. Waiting in the parking lot at work every morning with my lights off (switch set to Auto, ignition off, angel eyes don't stay on) is not cool.

I checked my oil and noticed it was low. Added some. It's back to normal now. I notice the level goes up a little as the car warms up. I suppose it's because the oil thins out some. Either way, the ZHP might have a small oil leak. I suspect the VCG and so I'll probably order one, some grommets and six spark plugs.

What I'm telling people in the internet: something hopped up on the highway at 80+ mph and crushed my front mtechII, dislodging my fog light and scraping the paint to high hell.

Actual story: I crushed my mtechII on some belgian block curbing. Doh!

Touched up the scrapes, screwed the fog light back in, refitted the fog cover.

Then I painted my winter wheels flat black. First foray ever into wheel painting. Sanded with 320 then used duplicolor wheel coat. The finish does not seem durable at all, but maybe it needs to dry/harden more.

How're you liking the sprint booster?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yea there my winter wheels, I was getting a bit tired of the harsh ride and since it was nice out I decided to do them now.

The sprint booster is nice, I keep it in sport mode ( green light ? ) and it is perfect. Race mode makes the car kinda to jumpy for me to use as a DD but its nice to switch back and forth when i please.

I saw the $80 rebate, but what's up with the $100? It's not on their site that I could see...

discount tire was doing a 2-day in-store promo over the weekend where if you buy 4 tires you get a $100 AMEX prepaid card. that was in addition to the $80 mail-in rebate thru hankook's website. bi-winning.

Got 4 new tires courtesy of Kpro... Dunlop Dirreza Z1 Star spec. These tires are awesome and very wide. They barely clear the inside wheel well. I haven't had a chance to really work them yet but so far they feel amazing. The ride is slightly rougher. The sidewall is pretty stiff... it took two techs to get them on the wheels.
I'll be interested to see how they perform in wet weather.

I originally was going to get another set of Hankooks but the front tires are on National backorder... shame because they have an $80 rebate on 4 tires

Personally, I did the yellow highbeams to be different, which is why these posts of people all of a sudden wanting to do it are kind of .. surprising. lol
I like the yellow lighting better. My fogs are yellow, but that's thanks to the lamin-x. I had plans to actually paint them at some point, but the job is done by lamin-x and protects my fogs, so I might leave as-is. I love the lighting.

I'm going to be adding city lights, so I have my DRL's temporarily enabled now that I took out the angel eyes. I can't wait to get the city lights in; I don't like the amount of light the DRLs are putting out (too much). City lights parts are on order! Will make a DIY for this.

BP, yours look great.

Now I have an issue with my low beam HID on the drivers side. For some reason it doesn't wanna work. I got a new bulb (not cheap btw, gonna return it) no difference. Put the original bulb and ignitor on the passenger side, it lighted up. So now I think it's wiring somehow. Took out the wires from the drivers side headlight housing and blew the dust out w/compressed air, put back and it lit up. Turned off/restarted my car, won't light up again. HELP please...

I did this in the spring... took 6 hrs and lots of swearing. One of the pins that holds the carrier in place was frozen. Also, the instructions tell you to take the exhaust off. I did it without doing that but it makes it much harder... You'll have to pull the back of the tranny down to get the modified carrier back in place..

-rebuilt vanos with beisan rattle kit and seals
-new valve cover gaskets/rings
-outer upper and lower rear control arm bushings using the Meyle hd upper bushings for top and bottom.
- new eccentric bolts/washers in rear LCA
- new bushings in subframe to frame positions
- turner subframe reinforcement kit welded in and surfaces refinished
-rebuilt shifter with all new bushings, clips, boots, etc...
-new alcantara shift boot and shifter knob
-sanded down and repainted rear wheel wells to remove rust, repainted with color matched Imola red paint
- replaced FCABs
-installed Turner's FCAB limiter kit
- braided stainless brake lines all around, brake flush.
-Oil change
-alignment

Oh boy it was a busy time, I spent 40-50 hours on it to do all this, including making a few tools to remove and reinstall the upper subframe bushings.
