I saw this on mine as well when i retrofitted the FXR bixenon projector bowls. I went ahead and used shrink wrap on all of that wiring as well as the bixenon switch plug for the high beam which is inside the housing. those wires are subject to tons of heat and if 0 moisture as well... recipe for cracked insulation.

Luckily I can rewire this without any difficulty and yes, I will also use some heat shrink where needed. At least this way my lights will be good to go for another 10 years or so :)

On another note the Base where I work at in all of their combined wisdom decided to install a new speed bump on the exit lanes of the base and chose one that sits relatively high with retractable spikes. Bad news for all people with low sports cars! That includes BMWs by the way... I have had several people contact me since the installation of this blasted speed bump regarding what they can do. Since the installation of this "wonderful" speed bump my poor ZHP has suffered. There is a heavy duty metal plate that is mounted underneath the engine protecting it and the oil pan. This part looks to be heavy duty and does its job very well I might add. When I had my ZHP on the lift last week I immediately discovered this panel dented in and requiring replacement. Fortunately everything else (the engine and oil pan) was not damaged but now I have to replace this panel so that I know my ZHP will be perfect again.

Looks like once I am able to source another panel, I will be raising my ZHP an inch...as much as I really love the current look of my car I'm at the point right now questioning why I continue to do this....

Some more prep going towards my ZHP project I will be doing soon. I have to get more cutting disks for my dremel and new brake fluid. Starting to feel that all too familiar mod itch again.... the cycle is pointed to my trusty ZHP again ;) Time to organize everything so I can be ready to start this much anticipated project :thumbsup

You can see in the above pictures where the clear has peeled from the exposed carbon fiber on the bootlid. I'm not too worried about this as I am planning to repaint the bootlid Imola red and leave the center part of the edge exposed like I did with my Scorza CSL bootlid I sold to Sean a few years ago. This bootlid was already mounted so I don't expect I will need to do too much shaving/adjustment to get this mounted on my sedan :)

This CSL bootlid for sedan is made by VIS and the quality of this bootlid seems okay....good enough that I will try mounting it to my ZHP after I have it painted in the proper Imola shade ;) I have a good body shop lined up for this. :drevil

Gary, it looks like I will be getting that same exact hood for my M3 soon my friend :drevil

Had some issues causing my ZHP to go into limp mode. For the past year I have been too stubborn to believe that my DINAN throttle body being the culprit but after last weekend I realized this was the case when I installed my OE throttle body.

So the folloeing was replaced:
- blue (fuel pump?) relay
- green (?) relay
- cam position sensor
- DINAN throttle body

I purchased a new intake cam sensor but it turns out I did not need to use it so I placed it into my "spare parts" bin at my place :)

I then removed my rear passenger wheel only to discover two large cracks from the inside lip all the way to the barrel. That sucks...not sure if it can be fixed or if it will even be worth it, so in the meantime I will be removing my winter tires from my Style 68's and putting a decent set of all season radials.

Sockethead
06-22-2017, 11:07 AM
Dinan throttle body is a VDO bored out. Nothing too special except for the DInan name on the butterfly. Still, that sucks, I'm sure you paid a good price for that.
I had two huge cracks just like you describe on one of my rear style 135s. I had it repaired by Wheels America. It was still fine when I pulled off the 135s a few years ago

So shaving 2mm off the rotor means no modification to the dust shield?

No the dust shield has to go no matter what. The M3 rotors have less backspacing than the 330 (same wheel hub, but the rotor faces sit further in). You can barely mount the rotor in place with the dust shields intact, much less spin them.

I’m honestly not sure why they need to be machined, unless the BMWP rotors are 2mm too large? My StopTech rotors didn’t require modification.

M3 rotors are a different offset from the 330 rotors on my car so dust shields still have to be modded/cut to allow sufficient clearance of the new rotors.

way too quiet in this thread but usually thats a good thing right? :)

curious to nkow if you ever received the Avin Sedan Gloss kidney grills? what were your thoughts on them?

im contemplating just getting those vs the BMW performance single passenger grill on ECS and risking a driver side from Latvia lol.

the Avin ones look really nice online but not a ton of pictures. im curious on fitment and if any trimming was needed for the hood lever.

I did receive the new glossy grills from Avin and plan to get another set while they are still available. They were packaged well and upon visual inspection looked as good as my Performance grills.

I haven’t installed them because my car is covered in salt still. I’m planning to swap out grills after roads are cleared of sand/salt sometime in Spring.

Nice. Any pics of the new ride height?

I’ll get some posted by the weekend. Been traveling this week for work so not much time to be doing anything.

I will add stepping into my ZHP now feels different since I immediately notice I’m sitting higher but she handles the bumps and speed bumps so much better now.... it is a tradeoff I’m willing to have for my daily driver...

When I swapped to US faces I kept my Canadian (same as Europe) symbols too. I love the (!) instead of “BRAKE.”

I just wish I could get rid of the “Unleaded Fuel Only” while still keeping MPH. The non-US clusters look so much cleaner.

The only thing you'd have to do is code the cluster to show MPG in UK units instead of US, since they're slightly different.

ZHP got new coilovers/springs installed, ride height raised so she now clears unrealistic speed bumps, new exhaust pipe hangers and posts, 4-wheel alignment and rear camber readjusted back to BMW spec. She also got a much needed oil change [emoji6]

I now have to source the following:
- autoleveler sensor (new part on hand)
- new RCR tail lights (part ordered)
- ZHP control arms
- new exhaust
- replacement driver’s headlight assembly

So lots of work ahead of me to fully sort out my ZHP from the daily wear and tear of daily driving duties over crappy New England roads...

Serg,

The old set of BC Racing coilovers were worn and required replacment so a new set was installed but this time I had changed the ride height to account for the new speed bumps that were placed where I work. The rest is what is required for maintenance as the car requires it from daily usage... as for the exhaust the new speed bump took care of it and punched a hole in one of my cans so I am sourcing a new exhaust for my "Road Warrior" :)

Also I forgot to mention I will also need to overhaul my AC but that is lower on the priority until suspension and exhaust is updated..... priorities....

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180729/087d7daf1e5fcc93ad7bcc50ca3405c6.jpg

Today I felt it was time to install my repainted lower steering wheel trim because the one mounted was looking worn...
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180729/609cddc58a1cf8a3a0bc9be75efe3ad0.jpg

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180729/d298e053d009598c273720e8a03b8da7.jpg

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180729/b33f57fdb3ea68a5b235d42322696d6e.jpg

Then I took one final angle
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180729/53be3693261f67693a1fba880cf408fe.jpg

Since my steering wheel is black alcantara with red stitching here is what my Imola trim looks against the red stitching Mike used when he made my wheel...

Whomever is used when you can answer with him/her. Since I wouldn’t answer “him told me there’s no such thing as a stupid question,” but would instead say “he told me...” the correct selection would be “whoever.”

I once accidentally replied all to a coworker, dissecting the embarrassingly poor grammar in his email to a high profile client (it was really bad and although it was an accident he deserved it). Since that day I have been addressed as “Der Grammatik Nazi” by the client. I must live up to my title.

because some people can't believe a person would be willing to make such a drastic change to their garage... New England winters have taken a toll on my ZHP and I felt it was time to get something much more practical. Toyota's offering is much more practical than my ZHP so I decided to sell the girl to a fellow forum member who I know will appreciate her... now to get myself, and garage, ready for my next project ;)

fredo, did not realize it's been 7 years of ownership with my ZHP at the time I sold her... goes to show that time goes by quick!
