Here's the video of the rust bucket 750iL. Not everything turned out as a wanted and I had some interference with the microphone but I hope it's not too bad to watch.

Great video, thanks for documenting and putting that together for us. 3...2...1... doh; I feel your pain.
Will you be transferring the hydraulic trunk close mechanism?
That oil really shined up that plastic.
I'm loving the videos! Keep 'em coming.
Also, some sick, twisted part of me wants that E38 to fix up and bring back to its former glory.
I think I just heard my wallet whimper.
Haha, that was pretty stupid of me. The funnel came with the oil and I thought might as well use it so I don't spill anything... Yet I kept using it after the mishap.
That immediately crossed my mind as that is a really cool feature to have on a '90s car but it's a lot of work to retrofit it, the wiring and then cutting out the hole on the inner side of the rear quarter panel.
Now there's a top tip. :biggrin
Thank you! Appreciate the good feedback.
Me too, it's been so neglected that it deserves better, it has good bones but rust is too much fore me. Btw, E38 goes well next to E46. ;)
Update incoming.
I haven't done much on the M5 to be honest, just racking up the kilometers on it and it's been trouble-free (knock on wood). We are at 187k km / 116k miles.
Insurance luckily covered the stolen mirrors and now I'm finally complete in that regard as I bought new/used ones. The Chinese glass worked fine for a while but they start wobbling a lot when at speed.
Scored this used but never installed right side mirror glass on eBay for half of the price of the new one.

It's a work in progress and yesterday I got it to run! So far it's what you'd expect, wrong and loose spark plugs, disconnected or dead ignition wires... I'm working on the video as well, it'll be the first car buying road trip that I video documented.
Last weekend I took a break from working on cars and we went to Austria, just across the border and made a tour to Bavaria with a visit to the Neuschwanstein Castle.
Lots of traffic and congestion on the way but totally worth it.

Front wheels are totally coated with brake dust hence the color difference, D2Racing sport pads have a great stopping power but man do they dust.

That's it for now. I'm making progress on the E38 as well but it keeps getting increasingly annoying working on it as I keep finding hack jobs all over the place. Just replaced the whining power steering pump just to find out the pump wasn't bad but they improperly deleted the SLS and routed the lines causing the pump to whine. Next are the intake manifolds were somehow they managed to brake and then bodge one of the vacuum pipe connectors...
Great pictures of Schloß Neuschwanstein! I was in Bavaria 11 years ago and all of my photos are shit quality from a point and shoot. And it was very foggy when we were at the overlook. Thanks for sparking some great memories!

Thank you! Phone cameras have come a long way in 11 years. :) I feel like it's always foggy in that area, towards the end of the day the weather kept getting worse. I'm glad it sparked good memories!
Finally stepped up and got a proper camera which I'll be using mainly for the videos. I rounded up the gang for a small photoshoot. M5 is the ringleader aka the only fully working one. 😁

Why not, I'd love to go to Japan. :biggrin

Thank you! Have a garage is a huge privilege.
Thank you, Fredo! I'm really glad you liked it. Btw, how do you say mold or mildew in Spanish? Google translate said molde but the guy still didn't understand me. :biggrin
I usually take my girlfriend with me as she's a walking translator being fluent in English, German, Spanish, Serbian and good French, but she couldn't get away from work this time.
Thanks, Will! Makes me happy to hear that.
Mold = moho. "Molde" usually refers to a container.
Amazing, your girlfriend speaks 5 languages. She's a keeper for sure.
Gracias :) So I was a proper dumbass.
Yeah, she's a keeper for sure. She's pushing me to learn German but it's a slow process.
I had some luck with 8er today. Decided to remove the timing chain tensioner to replace it as the chain was making noise.
I found this:
The old spring was more compressed and shorter than the new one.

Anywho, I'm editing part 2 of the E38 restoration. It's taking a tremendous amount of time to finish it and I just went over 20 minutes. It'll be 100% mechanical repairs and so far I included fixing some oil leaks and complete front/rear suspension overhaul. I was planning to include spark plugs, distributor caps, belts & pulleys, fuel filter, PS pump and oil pan gasket replacement but I'm afraid the video will go over 30 minutes so I still haven't decided if I should make it longer or leave it for part 3.
In other news, guess who's up for sale.

I wish my garage will be tall and wide enough, so I can have some shelves for storage.

I know by modern standards it‘s modestly powered, but surely it’s a blast to be at the helm of a V12 mated with a manual gearbox.
Also the garage is looking great.
It's the small things that make the biggest difference, crap piles up quickly and shelves help out a lot. I'm planning to put 2 more rows above.
Agreed, the whole E31 cockpit and long hood give that complete experience. Wish I had space and means to keep this one along the E38.
Danke, I am very excited about the garage.
Well, boys, part 2 of the E38 restoration is here!
I spent a tremendous amount of time on this one and decided on a certain format for which I'm very keen to hear the feedback. It is a long video, but I thought showing complete repairs with details while listening to ratchets, spanners, torque wrench clicking away and my heavy breathing would make for a more watchable video than to talk senselessly, time-lapse it and play some stupid music. Overall, I'm happy how it turned but there's always room for improvement.
I wedged complete suspension overhaul and sorting out oil leaks into this part.

To butcher beautiful Spanish language again.
I'll write more details when I get back, but another garage find, slicktop E31 850i 6-speed. Comes with a very cool story.
Bought it from a gentleman who's a relative or something of Picasso, I'm still trying to piece it together - https://es.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chico_Repullo

Thank you, Will! I'm happy that you liked it. :)
Update time, starting with the green E31. The 8er was successfully brought back to life, I did a pretty big service on it and got it to running and driving condition. Part 2 of that will be the next video.
Last week it left my custody and went to a very nice guy from Czech republic who has a mint 850i 6-speed that was involved in a front end accident so he'll be able to salvage some parts from it and put it on this car since it still needs a lot of work.

This proves my point that these cars sell much better and quicker as project cars at a cheaper price than fully sorted at a higher price. The black 850i that I fully restored took me 6 months to sell and this one was gone in 2 days and I received a ton of interest. The black E31 was a much better deal than this money pit but it seems that everyone wants a project car that they can restore on their own.
Anywho, I continued my merry way with usual browsing of European car listings and the very next day I stumbled upon another neglected beauty in Spain. It made all of the right noises: garage find, parked for 15 years, doesn't start, oil leaks all over the place, clutch pedal stays on the floor... stuff that would make normal buyers run for the hills but not this idiot. This idiot was buying tickets for Malaga later that evening.
I landed in Malaga and took the cab directly to the garage where the car was rotting for the last 15 years.

https://i.postimg.cc/XYJPYttP/20191121-112401.jpg
The owner of the car sadly passed away in August due to a long time illness and his wife with the help of the owners brother was selling the car. The estate where 850i was sitting is fairly large, in the high-end area of Malaga and they were selling it so the car needed to go. They were the 2nd owners since the early 2000s and I was told that the owner was very attached to the car but just didn't drive it as much as he should have and couldn't let it go so this E31 ended up slowly disintegrating in the garage.

The condition, as you can imagine, is rather poor. They put new batteries and fuel in it and tried to start it with no success. The oil was clean and the level was good, the engine is turning over nicely but we'll know more once the car is back in Germany.

The intake manifolds were removed at some point and powder coated but other than that, the car was in original condition. Here are some findings after inspection: brake fluid turned into black disgusting coffee, oil leaks front bottom of the engine, diff is leaking, rear mufflers rusted out from sitting, tires 20 or so years old, it was completely repainted... but the biggest disappointment and something that will devalue the car the most is an accident in the rear left corner that was rather poorly repaired.
The good side.

The bad news, as I said, is that it was poorly repaired and body gaps don't line up. The good news is that it wasn't structural, the battery tray, floor and spare tire wheel well are straight. From underneath, around the exhaust and under the fender it all looks fine.

It's a slicktop! Pretty rare on E31 and something that I love very much. Original headliner still in perfect shape.
The interior is in great shape too, no missing or broken trim. It has the coveted sport seats which just need a good cleaning, the support in them is amazing compared to standard seats. I already wrote this on my Instacrap account, but the interior is a time capsule that smells like a brand new car from the '90s with that refined rich leather scent. One of the biggest things I liked about this car.

Finding that botched up repair was surely a turn-off but the car had an interesting story behind it, great spec and I felt it needed to be rescued. So I struck a deal with the sellers and bought the car.
We headed to his fascinating house, on a top of the hill overlooking the sea to do the paperwork and that's when he told they are family of artists and they are related to Pablo Picasso. His mother, MarÃ*a Luisa Repullo Picasso, was his niece.
He's a sculptor and overall a really nice gentleman - https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chico_Repullo
I received a short tour around his house and he showed me the art he had on display.

After that, he took me to a nearby restaurant where he had his sculptures showcased for a quick cerveza and tapas.

Paperwork finished and I had few hours to kill in the city before my return flight. I honestly wish I had more time to properly explore this lovely city, the beaches look amazing and the whole city is beautiful. Spain is probably one of the rare countries where I could see myself living one day. Hopefully, I'll plan a vacation in Malaga in the near future.
