Are you saying 5th gear is very difficult as in difficult to bite or the shifter is hitting the edge of the gear console plate? In my case, the SSK 5th gear would have barely space in between the shifter and the plate.....But boy.... oh what fun to shift.

What kit are you running? I changed out the transmission fluid only a couple of months ago. Shifts were smooth as butter before I had the UUC SSK installed over the weekend.

It's very difficult to get the shifter to go into gear. I have to put significant force behind it and the shifting motion is sort of a curved J motion rather than right angle _| motion.

Hmm...well now that makes me wonder if it was installed incorrectly or I have a defective unit. Did you install UUC's DSSR as well?

I did install a DSSR. The instructions are actually wrong but it's pretty obvious when you're installing it. Really not sure if you could complete the install wrong but if you did you would be able to pull up on the knob and there would be play.

Top of page 9 says to "Insert white bushing into carrier" and an accompanying picture. THIS IS WRONG

The white bushing goes into the aluminum height adapter. The first picture on page 10 shows it correctly installed.

I'm running the BMW Performance kit.
Getting a short shift kit will undoubtedly make shifting more crisp because usually the kits are installed with new shift bushings, which really tighten up the gear changing actions. With this being said, you still shouldn't have to put considerable effort into shifting; it should be more firm but not to a point of being a problem. I'd consult with whoever installed it for you and have them take a look...

Yup, I know SSK's tend to make the action firmer and more precise but not like mine right now. I'm contacting UUC today to see if they've ever heard of any such issue and what the cause might be, and then I'm taking it back to the indy where I had it installed to have it looked at.

EDIT: Spoke to UUC, they didn't have much to offer and said it was most likely an installation issue with either the DSSR or the direction of the actual shifter. I'm taking my car back to the mechanic to take a look at it on Saturday as well as the rear clunk sound that I'm guessing is the differential bushings.

With regard to the direction of the shifter, if you lift up your shift boot you'll see a screw head on the barrel of the shifter, that should be facing towards the front of the car.
