Derbo's ZHP

Fun fact:

194 bulbs are not all the same.

Turns out the W5W bulb in the BMWs are 12V 6W instead of the conventional 5W common ones. They are xenon-filled 12V 6W size W5W bulbs.

RMeuro is the cheapest I found it. They sell the OSRAM version (OEM) and it's at $0.97 vs the $4.xx at the dealership.

Passenger side is the 85 lumens 6W, and the driver side is the 50 lumens 5W. It isn't noticable in the pictures, but it is brighter in person.





On another note, I pulled the 194 map lights in my civic and they are 12V 8W....:rofl

It's amazing what a difference that 1W makes in the city lights, eh? I'm still blown away by how much brighter it is in person.

I'm looking for some new seats for the ZHP, likely similar to yours (SPG fiberglass?)

Any recommendations in that price range and some slightly cheaper options?

I'm a Recaro guy and Recaro aren't good ontp the wallet. The entry level seat is the pole position (PP) It's a little wider than the SPG and a bit more forgiving getting in and out of the seat. I actually wanted to switch my seat to PP but it didn't make financial sense.

You can always look for used seats if you aren't planning to race in competitions requiring up to date certifications.

Nothing much to report.

I stopped dailying the car in late March and I haven't started the car till yesterday. Battery was shot. I threw on the Cytek MUS 4.3 charger and set it to recondition. 4 hours later, the car started right up. I did a few laps of the car and washed it, and parked it back in the garage. A sad life it has right now.

I had some 750 lumen 194 CANBUS LED bulbs laying around (They were too bright for my Civic's interior dome lights) so I threw them into the ZHP as DRLs.

I can't say I like the look but I'll give it a go for a little while.



Few items to Buy/Do:

• Cooling System Refresh
• Oil leak from somewhere (I suspect Oil Pan?)
• Vibration coming from the Front
• New Track Pads

Time will tell when I decide to do these. I've been a bit busy with life and since the car lives at my grandparents garage, I don't really get to drive it as often as I like. It involves a fair amount of pre-meditation to get that going.

I'm getting to the point where I just want to throw it at a shop and left them figure it out. The horror!

Today I went on a little small cruise with some friends to Sam's Chowder House in Half Moon Bay, CA.

We met up at a 76 gas station in Saratoga, CA and went the "scenic" route there. I haven't driven my car like this in awhile and it was an incredible treat to do so. Light traffic and lots o fun.


Couple S2000s, couple Subies, Jag F type, my ZHP, M3, GTR. The F Type sounds freaking amazing with its gargling muffler. We nicknamed it Cookie Monster for all the nomnomnom noises it makes on decel.

Oh man, the Dragon was quite a bit of fun coming back from TN after last year's Reunion. :)

The funny thing is that the speed limit is 35. Driving the speed limit on that road is actually perfectly fun! Some of those turns are so sharp, 35 feels like you're ripping through there.

Oh man, I'm really happy to read this; part of me was concerned it would be really overrated. I'm heading up that way next month. A day or two of Appalachian twisties sounds like a decent way to take my mind off turning 30.

thats good to know! i am always dismissive of mountain drives. i always see bikers and other cars tail gating if you dont drive their speed and i hate feeling anxious like that. I just want to drive and not be bothered with windows down. Also i forgot about the Dragon.

If you drive in the wee morning on a sunday, there are a lot less of them. :) We started our drive at 8am Sunday morning.

You're best off driving in the off-peak season. We drove it to the cafe and back. On the way there, traffic was relatively clear, with barely anyone holding us up. On the way back, however, we kept having to stop because we kept catching up to this ridiculously slow (below the speed limit) biker. But, for those moments we weren't being held up, it was pure magic.

That's how Mt. Hamilton is a very fun road. Since the road was paved when horses were around, the grade of descent is 6%. Bikers LOVE this road. It is hard to drive fast on the weekends.

Another note:
I find myself nowhere near the limits of the car because we are on the streets. It just feels so weird to be driving the car at barely 50% of what it is capable of. The PSS barely even got warm. I need to sign for an HPDE as soon as I take care of the cooling system, etc.

Vibration Issue:

It seems to be speed sensitive. It happens around 55-70mph (at least the more apparent.)


Things I've tried to check:
I've replaced my tires, rebalanced them.
Check bearings and tie rods with 3/9 and 12/6 checks.


Only thing I can think is, that I have a 3mm spacer and it might be causing the issue? I'll have to try a 12.5mm spacer to see if it does anything. If anything I can get my old RPF1s from my cousin and test clearance without spacers. If it clears, I can test them out for a bit to see if that resolves anything.

If you don't have hub extenders then I'd bet money on the 3mm spacer being the issue. I had that exact problem with 5mm spacers without hub extenders. The 12.5mm spacers surely have a hub/lip on them so that should work.

That's what I'm thinking too. I'll give it a shot when I get a chance to work on the car.
