Dumped the RE040's on my car today in favor of Pilot Super Sports. HOLY CARP! What a transformation! If first impressions are any indication, these tires are all they're cracked up to be. After seeing how worn my rears were - I now wonder if the RE040's were the factory tires? Car has 52k miles (just bought it 3 weeks ago) and was definitely gently driven. Could be? They have the BMW star on the sidewalls, though they can be purchased as such in the aftermarket.
So far, this is what I've done for the car since its arrival from Miami:
- Full paint correction & detail, including interior & engine compartment
- Replaced both side markers with OEM parts.. existing ones both had water inside and were DOA
- Replaced worn shift knob with new OEM ZHP knob
- Full Inspection II in lieu of just replacing all fluids. Was due in about 8k miles, decided to move it up and get the whole enchilada done
- Replacement Ebay RVM with Homelink & SOS feature, a hard combo to find. Turned out to have knackered day/night fluid, repaired by radar-mirror.com,
- Replaced knackered A-pillar covers (fabric pulling up at bottom) with new OEM parts
- Replaced head unit with like unit from Ebay (knackered volume control)
- Pilot Super Sports in place of existing RE040's
Up next: bushings at both ends, shocks/struts, belts replacement
My ZHP shift knob got slightly torn a few months back and has been getting worse and worse with every day, so a few weeks ago I shelled out for an illuminated ZHP shift knob. It just arrived today. Took a whole ten minutes to install.

I originally connected it to the 12V/cigarette lighter connector, but seems to always have power, even when the car is off and locked, so I hooked it up to the small light beside the said cigarette lighter - on whenever the car is on, just how I wanted it.
Excellent work! Yes, RE040's were one of the two OEM options (M. Pilots being the other). RE040's are a lousy tire on several fronts IMHO. I switched to Yokohama S. Drives which have been good for the $, but I hear great reviews on the Super Sports!Quote:

FWIW, I have had good luck using Rustoleum on brake calipers on both an e30 (subjected to track heat/temps) and a Jeep too. Colors were yellow and red respectively, and I never had a problem with either burning/cracking/peeling/fading. Far less costly then the "caliper" paints too. I actually brushed them carefully instead of spraying them. Color choices should be better too!Quote:

I had RE040 on my car too when I first got it. They were brand new. As they wore they got really loud and tramlined bad. Also, don't know if you noticed but they are a really skinny tire. My subsequent tires, Hankooks and Dunlops are much wider
