Dropped the exhaust and everything. Could've probably finish in 3 if I had all the tools ready. Couldn't find a 18 for a while and couldn't access the top rear strut mount bolts. Totally forgot about the bottom one. After that was off it was easy.
Might as well replace all your bushings (if you haven't done this already) while you're there Tony :thumbsup
so did you buy this donor?
Tony,
No need to drop the subframe to replace the RSM's.
If you stare at that subframe you can tell its a little "different" :)
Sweet, where did you buy this, copart.com?
Dude that M diff/subframe is going to be sweet! Congrats on the work.
Jealous you got the front brakes to pull apart at your disposal too.
Did you remove the abs sensors as well?
Whoa whoa whoa...this is epic! Are you gonna use the S54???
Sent from my GS3.
I will be replacing the bushings
I didn't purchase it. It was on Craigslist and I only inquired about the lcm as hoping it had the 4.0 or 4.5. Eventually in 2 weeks I got this great deal to do the project.
It's easier ;)
Someone else is parting it.
Sure will be with the ///M brakes too
Yep pulled everything and it should be a easy swap once I replace all the bushings at the same time.
No I don't have the funds for the S54. I would rather super charge the ZHP rather then doing a engine swap.
Congrats man. LSD will awake the zhp
Thank you but only 1/3 of the work is done for now. I still have to drop my rear and have it reinforce. Replace all the bushings and then swap in the subframe and brakes. So lots of work left and probably won't get to it till June.
Are you coming/driving your car to the reunion?

looks great, tony. good call on getting the entire M3 rear end.
how are you reinforcing the rear floor? i'm going to do the foam fill, it makes the most sense to me (assuming i have no cracks larger than 20mm), and also install poly rear subframe/diff mounts as well (also makes sense, to better distribute the load).

I'm comparing two subframe reinforcement kits right now. One from tunermotorsport which seems like the overall recommended one. The other is from AKG since everyone has been talking about their bushings and stuff.

Overall they both seem pretty well made. Does anyone got any other recommendations for a subframe reinforcement? I am planning to get all this done probably around June time.
AKG. And you should look up the foam fix as well. It can be found on e46f with JeppeJ's name on it.

yep, in my mind the plates are only a temporary fix - if you examine the cutaways some folks have done of the rear floor assembly you'll see that plates alone do not seem like the best fix. filling with the BMW non-expanding foam, assuming your spot welds are still intact, seems like the best solution.

Alright I'll have to see how my car is after grinding down the paint to see if there are any cracks or anything. Last year when I dropped it there was nothing but I also been traveling to New York a good amount of times so I'm sure there may be something this time around. Time will tell once I get everything apart. I'll have to ask my parts guys to get the foam to do all that at the same time. Man I can't believe that it only has been a year and I'm on the path to do the lsd and brakes (non-zcp). Thanks again everyone and Derek for providing me info on the install/parts needed.
I'm thinking that the whole install will be happening around June. I have to gather my funds and get all the parts. Prepping the subframe is key so it will be a easy swap over. Currently looking into akg subframe mounts, m3 rear trailing arm bushings and oem front diff bushing with possible akg diff rear bushings. Along with that I'll be using the tunermotorsport subframe reinforcement and getting everything else needed to weld up everything. Does anyone have any insight on what I need to spray over the subframe after the welding is all done?
Its called a seam sealant. Just seals the welds so they don't corrode.

Thanks all. So Monday I'm getting a pilkington windshield with a rain sensor. Just talked to the glass shop owner to clear up the misunderstanding. All is good now :)
Darn insurance company making things so difficult.
Didn't buy but getting replacement aspherical mirrors due to the last pair bubbling up and blue tint going away.

Great customer service and pretty decent quality compared to cost of the new oem lenses.
Aftermarket from the same company. They are base right out of Watertown, MA. Great guy.
Plans for this Sunday includes swapping over to the ///M front spindles with calipers along with the Z4M FCABs. Changing out the sway bar and reinforcement plate as well.
Hopefully get some tools to push out some of the bushings for the rear subframe while we are at it.
Few good updates over this past week. I was able to source set of AL headlights and also swap in my ZKW lens as well. It would seem to me that my driver side headlight is not adjusting level when I turned it on though. I'm not sure if I connected something in correctly or whatnot. Either way the light output is super amazing compared to the burnt ZKW headlights I had prior. Thank you Joop for the detailed youtube videos on disassembly and Charlie for guidance and photos as well. It was quite a easy swap after watching Joop's video a few times.

Secondly I rewired up my GPS antenna behind the cluster. There is a perfect spot right behind the cluster for any receiving device. I would suggest that spot for anyone interested in adding GPS or Sirius. It doesn't seem to affect the reception to anything.
Third I was able to get my windshield replace with a pilkington with the rain sensor. I'll have to double check to make sure that it's functioning properly and coded correctly.
Day finished after getting windshield replaced.

Awesome progress on your ZHP Tony! :thumbsup
Did you get the m3 spindles all on?
Haha looking to do this over the weekend and get that m3 front end on the car.
Also does anyone have any clue on retrofitting pdc onto the car? I got the modules and everything. Just unsure about where the wires go on the gong side.
