They are going to put new gaskets on it, but I agree with Fredo. If the valve cover is original, have them replace it and ask if you can keep the new gasket that was paid for by warranty that you can sell or keep for a later date.

If the bolt heads are broken and missing they will pull the pan to get them out. Easy money for the tech and they aren't gonna pass that up since warranty should pay for it.

Agreed again with Fredo about the engine mounts but your car doesn't have a rubber steering coupler like the E46 so you should be fine in that regard.

*Also consider replacing the eccentric shaft sensor if original, they often times will leak oil through the wiring pins in the housing body. Labor should be minimal with the v/c off.

Valid point, George. My invoice shows the VCG (paid by warranty) and the VC (paid by me).

And the valve cover comes with its gasket, the valvetronic motor gasket and the eccentric shaft sensor seal.

Right, you guys are on point.

I have never been able to make good human contacts with the dealership guys that you drop your car with in the morning. They are working fast and furious to get as many cars into the shop as possible. So as such, never talked to him about all these "while you're in there" elements you guys are talking about.

Took 16 hrs because the guy doing the job was learning with a master technician overlooking. Could be good, could be bad, I don't know.

Car is fixed up, 3 of the bolts were lose. They replaced them and the 3 gaskets you are talking about. They said the VCG was definitely leaking and I knew that from the acrid stink of burning oil coming in the cabin. They kept the old VC.

Did not do anything under the engine.

So I hope I stop leaking oil on the ground. If not, it will be a bottom job.

All in all, happy that I have a new free VCG in my car. Thanks to this recall.

New VCG is always good! Pretty sure this will remove the smell in cabin. It may take some days for it to fully go away.

Don't wait too long to fix your OFHG. There are some horror stories out there:

Oof, I changed my belt as soon as I got that car. But you are correct. Will get to it myself this summer.
So far so good on the below motor leak. There was not a drop after I parked my car yesterday.
    Fingers crossed.

I have not seen any oil leak after a week. But, even though the cabin smell was gone for a week, it has now restarted. Oil burn very early on startup and reversing the car. I think the VCG job done last week failed possibly.
    Taking it back to dealer.
