Sorry to be a stick in the mud here but I feel obligated to point out the following, especially because it is a rare but known cooling system failure item. The part quoted above was superceded by a newer part number 2 years ago. The new part number is 17137553919.

But there's hope: the older part can also play the far less critical role of windshield washer reservoir level sensor or in cars with headlight washer systems. Per realoem.com, it can be used for this purpose in most if not all current BMW models as well as older models dating back to E39.
