Yeah, I need to change my deductible. I'll be out probably $600+ after all this

(Which is a lot of money to me)

I don't mean to steal Ryan's thunder, but the biggest bang for your buck upgrades are in the front midbass and tweeter. The stock midrange driver is one of the best in the system. The Infinity Kappa 6.5s fit very well and offer a noticeable upgrade in kick over the stock midbass!
Shallow mount or regular sized basket? Also did you used the factory crossover and just plug byte speakers in or did you use the kappa component crossover?

I might be coming up to Orange County today to check out a shorty sporty for my brother. This is now E38 #4 that has been seriously considered. Black/black, 104k miles

If you leave the stock amplifier (what I'd recommend to start) leave the stock crossover.

The slim basket version fits with no problem, as does the 5.25" regular with an adapter. The 6.5" fits, but from my memory it is pretty tight if you buy the regular basket version. It looks like the slim basket version is only sound as a coaxial now though.

I didn't use the tweeter so I can't comment, I'm not sure that it's as good as the woofer.

Changed both of the air filters on Dad's E39 M5 the other day. I hoped to see an mpg increase, but it actually went down, LOL. Stupid heavy right foot..

The new Mann filters are made in Mexico, and the old were ones were from Germany..
