I think this is price/dealer driven. It is for me anyways. On the molecular level, and because most of us change our oil well before it's due, I think there is zero advantage to using one over the other...but then again, I'm not BOB. There is a slight difference here in the viscosity (0W vice 5W) with the 0W being LESS viscous.
The "30 vice 40" is just an indicator of the high temperature or operating viscosity properties.
TIP: In an older engine that was designed with larger bearing clearances, it is appropriate and recommended to use a thicker oil to maintain proper oil pressure and provide adequate bearing film thickness. This is also true for engines that have a lot of miles on them and the oil pressure is starting to drop off. By using higher viscosity oil, you can boost the oil pressure back to normal levels and increase bearing film strength.

^ thanks for the info Boss. I will keep that in mind next time I change oil on the old Camry, the old Sienna and the old G20T.

I attribute my hundreds of thousands of miles on my e30 on the great product that is mobil1 oil.
Does LL01 matter if u change oil every 5'000km or 6 months?

every 3k miles with syn. oil is a waste. Even no-name dino can handle that in most cars.
Go at least 8k with an LL01 oil.
