I recently instructed at a car control clinic where I got to ride in an E9x M3, newer M5, new Mustang V6, 335 something, E46 330ci, plus a Honda minivan (fun in the slalom!). I certainly envied the high-powered cars on the skid-pad exercise when they could slide the rear just by hitting the gas, whereas I could barely break my rear tires loose (255mm Michelin PSS) if I threw the car sideways to upset it. But for cornering and driving feel, I was not jealous at all of the high-HP cars, at least not from the passenger seat--I didn't drive any of the students' cars.

yeah, i am sure i will find that out, if i even get to that point - i haven't driven an E9x platform car yet. i know the slow steering will suck. i know the car payments will suck. but i washed and wax my car yesterday - and while she's a dang good 10-footer - i can't help but want to repaint the entire car because i've got paint chips and tiny bubbles on various panels, and i'd rather paint it than let it rot... but i don't know if i want to spend $1500 on a respray (i have a good friend who will do a fabulous job for that price), when the car is maybe only worth $10K.

i dunno. a 20-minute test drive would reveal the answer.

It all comes down to what you want with your ZHP Peter... If you're planning to keep the car until the wheels fall off then I say spend the money for a proper respray....seems your friend is willing to help out here....a win if you ask me.

I myself tend to keep my cars for an incredibly long time well after the depreciation hits....so I don't care how much money I put into either cars...

I'm totally with you Charlie, if it were me, I'd keep my car for one huge reason. IT'S PAID FOR! All the extra money and time I put into it will help keep it from the wheels falling off. And I also enjoy the wrench time, mainly because it usually involves me upgrading parts

Vacuumed and washed wagon. Put cover on assuming it may not get driven much for awhile
