    Console and steering wheel refresh

Boots dried overnight and reinstalled (except I did not have the right size zip-tie for the e-brake boot so it is still loose on the handle for now). Painted the black shift plate, cleaned shift knob and installed new cupholder, coinholder and leather armrest cover. Cleaned everything else while apart with Meguiars Vinyl and Rubber Cleaner #40, switches look like new. Also pictured is the used alcantara wheel that I installed last week. I bought it thinking it needed to be recovered. It was so dirty and matted down it looked like worn leather. Since it wasn't torn I tried cleaning it with Sonax Alcantara cleaner. Started coming back to life so I gave it about 5 treatments. I applied the sonax to the wheel and lightly rubbed it in with a soft brush and white tee shirt. Then once saturated I squeezed the sonax (& dirt) out with cotton shirts. Took about 5 passes around the perimeter over 2 days, reapplying sonax after each squeeze out until the shirt was not pulling out much dirt. After it dried I hit it with a sweater shaver and a soft brush. Amazed with the results. It is not perfect, but pretty acceptable for a driver. Next up, re-dye the e-brake handle and clean the seats when the car can sit for a couple of days to dry.

I have the same jack, where did you get the seal? Only thing is the jack matches your car. Guess I have to paint mine Imola, lol

Shifting was feeling like it was more and more notchy... Changed trans fluid and it's a good bit smoother on every shift.

ive been going switch console/panel crazy lately. the ones with fully options are $300+ and special order from germany..... i ordered one for myself a while ago after combing ebay for 2 months and forums with 0 luck.. luck would have it that after i got it and past the return period... when I was at a parts recycler locally, i looked inside a gutted m3 and it had a full option switch panel including the sunblind button BUT the car never had sunblind and it had 2 cool little covers over the heated seats button. looks like their original panel took a shit at some point and when that happens BMW just orders you the full option one as a replacement with those covers... I picked it up for $50 with the quickness as the guy had no idea what he had.

then i found 2 sunblind rear shelfs and picked them up quickly (1 for coupe and one for sedan).. one came with a really basic switch panel with only DSC heated seats and sunblind...

since i had a little collection of switch panels, i decided to take them apart and start putting together one of them to be a FULL option one itself. i had one that had all options except sunblind so I desoldered a receptacle from a spare board and soldered it into the empty location on the other board.... moved the SPORT button to that new spot and then installed the sunblind switch where the sport button was. each spot is labeled POS1, POS2 etc... so this means you can code them with NCS export and assign POSITIONS with what they are which is why the wiring/pin assignments stays the same for all of the plugs regardless of options.

then i had a spare sunblind button left over from something else i got so i opened up another switch panel and it had 6 out of 7 receptacles already even though originally it only had 2 buttons so I started adding extra receptacle and buttons to fill it out and will code those individual ones later when i get my car back to do so.

i used a dremel to route out new holes for the buttons in the panel covers as well.

guess i should do a DIY as well, this doesnt feel hard to retrofit options now. im probably going to get some of those full button convertible panels to see how they are laid out.

bar that needs new receptacle added to the board

Very cool, definitely do a DIY!

Do you test the engine today, or is that this weekend?
