Reverse sighting? Yesterday a guy in a maroon J80 Land Cruiser (I think...) ahead of me gave an emphatic thumbs up multiple times to me while at a light. We both got on the freeway entrance and he waved me by so I ran it out and he seemed stoked in the rear view mirror as I sped past him at WOT

Short of using the full VIN to pull a Carfax, is there any way to determine if a car is still around? Sold the ZHP in 2020 at 250k miles and still missing it.

Try going here and plug in the VIN but you will have to pay for the report. Most VIN checkers will require some sort of payment.
