    Mismatched vin in computer

Finally was taking the ZHP through emissions today, and got stopped from the computer reading "WBAAA00000KM08138" instead of "WBAEV53425KM08138". Since the last 7 are still correct it almost seems like digits 3-10 have been reset. Emissions guy mentioned something about how BMW should have to fix this for free, but no clue on the truth behind that. What would have caused this to happen/what moves do I make?

No clue, that's very strange. Interested in hearing the solution/outcome.

I'm guessing that perhaps there is a mismatch between all the modules that hold the VIN... maybe one of the modules was replaced and not coded correctly?

Update: while I still don't know why this happened, emissions guy was correct and the dealer will fix it for free. Apparently it's not that uncommon. So excited for them to try and tell me what's wrong with my car

VIN Is stored in the LCM, KOMBI modules for sure. I believe the DME has the 3rd store.
